Well, they did address the steath issue, they claim that the F-14s IRST combined with radar can beat the F-22s stealth and allow the F-14 to fire before the F-22 get's in range.

The -22 has managed to utterly PWN every other fighter aircraft that the USAF has available to fly against it. All you have to do is show him records. I believe F-15's have taken down F-14 pretty often in some form of combat drill (Red Flag maybe?). The Raptor will take down Eagles 4 AT A TIME. There's also a story somewhere else on this site where 1 Raptor took down 8 Vipers. While that's not impossible to believe, it's hard to believe and if it's true.... holy crap. Basically it comes down to this, the F-14 can be defeated by it's USAF counter parts in air combat. The Raptor can wipe the floor with the USAF fighter regardless of who, what when, or where. The Raptors record against them is something like 400-3. The 3 was probably the Raptor pilot playing around too much. At any rate, just show him the transitive property and smack him with results already achieved in air combat stuffs versus our current fighters.

The problem is, I don't know of any records, he also claimed that F-14s have beaten F-15s and F-18s so unless I get so evidence showing otherwise, he won't belive me. |

None of the aircraft that have fought against the Raptor have seen it. There are several other forums on this site that have pilots stating that. Also, compare the ranges of the AIM 120C or better yet D model versus that of the AIM 7. I've seen figures stating the AIM 120C has a range of about 70 miles vesus the AIM 7's 30. That alone is enough to swat the F-14 out of the air. I'd get a more professional opinion from someone that works with them every day, but compare the capabilities... the Raptor has been said to turn up its own butt. Things just can't see it, the stuff on any of the other planes never saw it so why would the old and antiquated F-14 be any different.

Sounds like a rumor started by a guy who has a bunch in the boneyard and wants to make a top dollar sale to foreign governments....If the 22 can be beaten by the 14 then we've all been duped my friends and it will be the most expensive con the world has ever seen.

He's claiming that IRST is the F-14's ace in the hole. It is NOT. As I said in my earlier post, you CANNOT have a radar guided missile track a stealthy airframe just because the radar knows where to point. The AIM-7 is SARH, not beam riding. And given that it would have to be talked to its target the whole flight, a fire and forget AMRAAM ends the argument nicely. Big ranges for air to air missiles are usually assuming a head to head "shot in the face". In a chase type shot the ranges are much, much smaller.
