IMO, those names fit more for an official name, not for a nickname.

My vote still's on Razorback, but that's just my Two Cents

I like it because it stands for rising the ashes.

This is a purple suited bird so let's honor (honour) everyone's history and call all versions the Fury.

Honor the USAF Sabre, the USMC (and USN) Fury and the RAF's Hawker Fury (jet) and prop.

Check 6 is Dago Red is there !!!! javascript:emoticon('Crazy Pilot')
javascript:emoticon('Guiness')

But how would "Griffon" even work? Doesn't SAAB's new jet, the Jas-39, who's official name is "Gripen", mean Griffon in English?

BTW, I too am also still convinced that "Razorback" would be the optimum name for the F-35A.

I have seen this on another site and my thoughts were then as they are now....Why would Lockheed Martin name their plane after a NcDonnell Douglas legacy aircraft? as in Boeing Phantom Works....same with the other two....

How about Starfighter II? not pointy enough? ok, ok, it was just a idea, at least it was a Lockheed Product....

Well, you do have a point. N. American, MD nor Fairchild had anything to do with the JSF. However, I've changed my mind again, I'm sticking with "Tiger Moth" now. Smile

I know the bird thing is in vogue, but I'd like to see some of the great names from the past return. If the Brits can have "Kestrel" then we should consider some of the following:

Mustang (II)
Warhawk (II)
Lightning (II) -- This should have been the F-22 name IMHO, unfortunately someone decided it should be a targeting pod...

Sabre (III)
SuperSabre (II)...Super-Duper Sabre?
Thunderjet/Thunderstreak (II)

Thunderchief (II) - my personal favorite, this world needs the "Thud" to rise again
Voodoo (II) - it's fun to say, isn't it? Vooooooo-doooooooo-twoooooooooo...
