You do know that if the US chose Griffon, Saab would have the right to sue them. After Gripen means 'Griffon' in Swedish.
The US has a habit of naming aircraft after birds of prey OR after old aircraft. Has anyone ever consider 'Hellcat' being used for the F-35C? or maybe even 'Buzzard', 'Vulture' or 'Caracara'. |

Well the UK won't use the name Griffon;
We call our AB.412's that.

| I think we should go with "F-35 Jekyll & Hyde" since the aircraft doesn't know what it wants to be... "Hey I'm a CTOL - wait I'm a STOVL - nope I'm a CV....Ahhhhhhh! I'm so confused!" |

No that name is reserved forever for the V-22 Osprey, watching it fold up is like watching a slow motion crash |

| If I'm not misstaken ( and I definatly could be ) Republic Aviation which produced the "Thunder" series ( Thunderbolt, Thunderjet, Thunderstreak, Thunderflash, Thunderchief ) got rolled into LockMart during one of the downsizing events, so there would be the tiniest thread of heritage for the Thunderhawk name. Plus you KNOW this mamma-jamma is gonna be loud as thunder lolol |

LMAO whilst I was typing that! Yes I think it was a James Bond baddie.
Well, if it's good enough for the AC-130, it's good enough for the F-35! I think Starling is pretty cool too. |

| I really like Thunderhawk. Thunder gets your blood pumping and you don't want to get on the food chain below a hawk! |

| The Phoenix is cool because it means reborn. So maybe the F-16/F-18 being reborn. |

| I still like Hurricane or possibly Sea Hurricane for Naval Versions. The name can be easily translated to many languages. Which, would make it exceptable to most if not all JSF Partners. |
