Yo JR, Dude you gotta lose the left thigh knife pocket on your flight suit! You keep the knife pocket on in a fighter squadron, you have to buy a round of drinks!

TC, can you explain that tradition a bit more? Never heard it before? Any origins or anything?

Lisafer, pink hair is hot :p

Nice pics everyone!

Ok, the tradition behind the knife pocket comes from the pilots who had been flying with the previous generation flight suits. There's a knife pocket on your G suit, so you don't wear your knife in the thigh pocket, unless you fly a plane like the T-37, where you don't wear a G suit.

With me so far? Good.

Some of the old timers had been flying their entire careers in the NOMEX flight suits with no knife pocket. Everybody had the same type flight suit, so everybody looked the same.

Then, in the mid to late 90s, some lame@$$ decided to "go back to the future" so to speak, and place a left thigh knife pocket on the latest generation flight suits, as a nod to the WWII flight suits. Rolling Eyes

Now, you have these new LTs coming into the fighter squadrons, and they automatically stuck out like sore thumbs, because they have the knife pockets, and the old timers didn't.

Some enterprising senior officers in certain squadrons knew how to capitalize on a good opportunity, and they began instituting a rule: "If you come into the squadron with a knife pocket on your flight suit, you have to buy a round of drinks."

Of course, they don't give the LTs this information when they're in UPT. They just wait to let the knife pocket bite 'em in the @$$ once they get there! Shocked Laughing

Lisafer, I'd be willing to take you on in a drinking contest, and YES, we can "Set sail with Captain Morgan!" Very Happy

I know some of you Aussie/Kiwi gals can be pretty wild when you want to be! Wink

Hopefully being alive at the end. Wink

Tengu, the thing about the knife pocket is the pocket itself. You want to get that pocket off of your flight suit (it's sewn on). Besides, when you rotate in from UPT, you trade in your UPT switchblade for a hook knife.

Its only job is to cut shroud lines, and G suit strings. It's worthless in a defensive situation.

As an LT, you will have more than your fair share of opportunities to buy the round of drinks, so anytime you can avoid that situation is advisable.

Awww, I only get a hook Sad

That doesnt make any sense? Why do UPT pilots get all the cool toys and then the higher you go they take that fun away from you. Granted you get to fly better planes but what are you gonna play with at the bar after your sortie? The hook doesnt make for a good game of fingers Twisted Evil

Hahaha you're on!!! although you'll drink me under the table for sure within the first two hours but oh well nothing like embarrasing yourself in front of people you dont really know right?

Hahaha well that depends on who you heard it from. oh and a word of warning its not generally a good idea to put Kiwi and Aussie girls in the same catergory (no matter how true it is Wink lol)

.....TC why do I have the feeling that accepting your challenge to drink is a bad idea? As for the Beer Studies, Waikato Uni lol its the place to be hahaha especially if you have a hangover and a four hour history exam!!! Beer

allenperos lol don't worry I've already been corrupted by Captain Morgan so you don't have to blame TC for that lol.

I agree with the "being alive at the end thing" cos in my case that might be easier said than done lol. Razz

TengNoHi, you might think that but the colour pink and I severely disagree. Think fire and ice disagree lol.

Probably true, what with the whole international border thing and all, but let's take stock for a moment, shall we?

Rachel Hunter = Kiwi

Elle Macpherson = Aussie

Kylie Minogue = Aussie

These are 3 gals that I'd definitely lump into the same category..
"Women who can be with TC anytime they wish" Wink

Lisafer, it depends on what night I'm drinking, but I can usually outlast any given person at a party. I don't know about Parrothead though. I think he could keep up with me. After all, he is a Jimmy Buffet fan. That automatically brings up your alcohol tolerance a few levels! Very Happy

Tengu, the hook is merely a practical device. That switchblade you get in UPT would definitely not be advisable as a weapon...unless you're Charles Bronson. Rolling Eyes Besides, the fighter guys get a pistol when they're in combat. If it came down to a knife fight, I figure you're pretty much up $hit creek anyway.

I realise that TC Smile

I wasnt looking at the knife as a method of self defense, I was looking at it as a toy :p What can I say? I like to play with sharp objects. My friends and I used (and still do) wrestle with knives. Not nearly as dangerous as it sounds since both people are hesitant to stab each other, we would just wave it in each others faces till we fell over on the couch and then tried to wrestle control of it out of each others hands :p Not the smartest thing cause Ive got a few scars from it but :p

TC ok then I would say I'd opt out now, given the fact that its now almost certain you will in fact drink me under the table, but this could be fun lol. prepare to watch Lisafer make a complete and total fool of herself!!! Cool its usually quite amusing.

Hmmm.... mainly tall, leggy blonde (okay so maybe not Elle but anyway)...brilliant!! At least I'm safe!! Twisted Evil lol

Wow theres someone else in the world who wrestles with knives? My mate just got me a switch and flick knife set. Very nice Very Happy (although ever so slightly under the table *clears throat*). What kinda knives you got?
