Sorry that I overlooked this nice topic in the past! And so I think, it´s time to talk a little bit more about me. I will be 53 on Friday this week. My son is 34, my daughter 27. And as Meathook said: "Damn! ..............Time Flies" Yeah!!!
As a teenager in a time of great music (Beatles; Rolling Stones; Who [MY GENERATION]; Jimi Hendrix; Jefferson Airplane; Bob Dylan; Doors; Creedence Clearwater Revival; Chicago; Emerson, Lake & Palmer; Black Sabbath; Humble Pie; Roxy Music; Rory Gallagher; Alice Cooper etc.) I was mainly focused on U.S. aircraft carriers and U.S. naval aviation. Later, I was interested on the entire U.S. naval history and also on WW II naval warfare in the Pacific and Atlantic (including Japanese warships and German "U-Boats"). During this time, I buyed a well sorted collection of books (including some rare Japanese prints).
Since Operations "Desert Shield" and "Desert Storm", I´m mainly interested in U.S. Central Command operations (including related U.S. Special Forces operations). Currently, my favourite aircraft are the legendary Douglas A-1 Skyraider (especially in USAF service during the late Vietnam War), the Fairchild A/OA-10A Thunderbolt II ("Warthog"), naturally the F-16 Fighting Falcon ("Viper"), and as the latest addition the F-22A Raptor.
Since I joined this great website in late October 2005, I got great support from both of our webmasters, moderators, other editors and some of our users to realize my long announced projects like "OEF" or "OIF". Thank you all!
And here comes J.J. for all of our visitors: |

You are right, Tim! And thanks for remembering! Especially I like their album "Recorded Live" from 1973 (Frankfurt/Main, Amsterdam, Paris). In the moment, on my PC, I enjoy this great CD again - after some years off (but not ten)!
I also forgot: Deep Purple (for long years my number one!); Janis Joplin; Joe Cocker (With A Little Help From My Friends - 1968!); Neil Young; Joni Mitchell; The Band (especially their live album "The Last Waltz" from 1978). I also like Bette Midler in the soundtrack of the movie "The Rose"(1979), and I like the soundtrack of the Vietnam War movie "Apocalypse Now".
From newer rock stars, I only like the music of two womens: Sheryl Crow and Alanis Morisette. That´s a new but verry good sound.
During the last couple of years, in Berlin/Germany I experienced the following live concerts: Rolling Stones (two times in our Olympia Stadion - but meanwhile with 120 Euro+ too expensive for my budget); The Who (with the very first live performance of their rock opera "Quadrophenia" - very nice, but I like much more their very first and legendary rock opera "Tommy"); Neil Young (as he performed in the legendary Waldbühne, vandalized by Stones fans 1966 - if I remember right); Alice Cooper (three times on different smaller locations, mostly visited by "older people" like me, some in black leather outfit, with beards or bald heads - like a Harley-Davidson Club, and not comparable with the female kids in the past who screeched as Alice performed "School´s Out" in 1972); Sheryl Crow.
Although I will be 53 this week, my music is still the same. And we had a great time with this music. Sounds like you love the same old stuff, Tim. What are your favourites? |

| Everyone you mentioned, and a few more, Mountain, Bad Company, Foghat, Alvin Lee's solo stuff T Rex, Trapeze.... the list could go on forever. The newer stuff I like is Nickleback, Stone Temple Pilots, Ozzy,( and of course Black Sabbath). Hell, I even listen to a little Kid Rock. |

Nice one J.J!!!
Deep Purple is, along with Rainbow, the world's greatest band ever! Ritchie Blackmore is God! (sorry guys, I'm really a big fan )

56 this Sept.....man-o-man, I cant believe it myself, it all seems like yesterday for so many wonderful, exciting adventures..more to come for sure but I would assume not on the same level (I dont think I could take it the way I used too)
But I'll never forget what my 1st Shirt told me while I was recovering from Vietnam back in May 1971 (at that time in the hospital in the P.I.)...I was feeling bad, hurt and felt life was harsh...he stated "Remember Kid, Everyday Above Ground is a Good One"!
He was right but it only took 36 years for me to figure it out |

| I love all those bands and I even saw Elton John twenty times in London from 72 to 75...I love his music, weird guy but great music (the crowds and girls were amazing, leather pants, big boots, I was whacked but had lots of fun being there))....all you guys nailed the bands for me, a few more here and there and then - Led Zepplin, when they hit me....my ears were always pinned to their tunes too, great and amazing band for sure. |
