I found an interesting article pertaining to U.S military aid to Israel http://www.washington-report.org/html/u ... israel.htm
What do you guys think of this? Quite frankly I am shocked... military aid to Israel? Why do they need military aid from the U.S when their military is already STACKED? But oh wait... the reason their military is so stacked is BECAUSE of the US military aid. Read and you ll understand.
Here the site about the F-16I's in particular: http://www.jewishvirtuallibrary.org/jso ... at16i.html
"The warplanes were purchased by Israel from Lockheed Martin in part with funds from the $2 billion-plus annual military aid provided by Congress." |

What rock have you been living under?...We've always supported them
Collective guilt perhaps for not helping enough in WWII, and evolved into a necessary means to ensure stability in the Middle East. What many folks don't realize, is that as a result of the Camp David Accords, we provide Egypt as much $$ as we do to Israel. |

They need aid from the U.S. because it is easier to pay for the best equipment available, rather than use a small national budget to try and create the best equipment you're able to make. IAI is a fine aircraft manufacturer, but if I were one of the head guys in Israel, I'd rather have Eagles and Vipers anytime, especially if my country is willing to pay for them (which, of course, Israel is).
Without our assistance, Israel would be in serious trouble. A disorganized Palestine, Syria, Lebannon, Iraq, Iran, and Egypt are all close, if not bordering Israel. Of course, Egypt no longer seems to be a threat, and Iraq is no longer ruled by Saddam, but Palestine and Syria are always places Israel must look out for.
The U.S. is always comfortable helping a country that cannot fully help itself, so long as it does not conflict with our own national interests or foreign policy. The U.S. also has a very large Jewish population. We must remember: those people in Israel are not only our friends, they are also in many cases, our family. Bottom line: Mess with Israel, and you mess with America. Granted, it may not appear to be direct assistance, but if you decide to fly your MiG, or drive your T-72 over Israel's border, you can rest assured that it will be American built planes and armor confronting you.
Also remember that Israel has an extremely deadly (and undefeated) A2A record in the Eagle and Viper. They have some of the best pilots in the world. You don't want to pi$$ these people off!

Military aid to Israel is low because the Israelis are making their own aviation suites and stuff, the US just provides airframes. Egypt is the fourth largest operator of F-16s in the world, but many are old Block 15s A and Bs, we are modernising them to meet Block 30 and 40 standards. |
