Come to think of it my first car was an old ('68?) Ford Falcon!!! I'd forgotten all about that car...
Oh yeah? What about a NEW Falcon!
The Falcon is alive and well in Australia! It's basically the same chassis as the Taurus, but its RWD, and a MUCH better perfoming car. USDM Fords suck a$$....Ford Australia is worlds away from what we get here.
The version above is the Ford GT-P, which is an evolution of the Ford/Tickford Falcon. They run in an australian series called Super V8s...
it's bascially a two make series with Ford and Holden, racing Falcons against Monaros. These cars make me moist....
WHY oh WHY can't we get fine machinery like these in the US!!!
Well we're finally getting the Holden here, in the guise of a Pontiac GTO... Please... |

Habu, the "new" GTO has the traditional Pontiac community here more divided than the US Senate. I have no doubt the "new" GTO is a good car (even if I can't tell it from a new Acura) but there's not one single piece of design, style or history that even remotely associates it with the original Pontiac GTO.
BTW Oz seems to know how to design and build a performance car, something we seem to have forgotten here in the US of A. |

I know! Pisses me off too..... I was at the LA Auto Show, and they had the GTO there, and I said rather loudly "look! we finally get a Holden!"
I got funny looks and stares.
Oz makes great cars, but I'm gonna hafta disagree with ya on that forgotten art of creating performance cars.....the USA never had it.....at least in road cars. There are a few exceptions...Corvette, Stangs, Viper...
The US has produced some excellent race cars though...the GT40, the Shelbies, Chaparrals etc... |

here's some wishful thinking; now that Pontiac brought the Holden over here and made it the GTO, maybe Ford will bring the Falcon over and replace the Tortoise. . .I mean Taurus. My Thunderbird is getting a little long in the tooth and I need a decent rear drive car to replace it (or maybe an all wheel drive car. . . ). My other ford pipe dream is that they realize that Subaru and Mitsubishi need some competition in the turbo all wheel drive area and build an SVT all wheel drive turbo charged Fucus,. . .I mean Focus. . . |

Haven't you heard dude?
Ford is making the Cossie Focus!
Word isn't firm on whether or not it's coming to the states, but Ford would be really stupid not to bring it here. What with all the WRX/Evo/SRT-4 success, they'd really miss out. |

ah. . .pipe dreams do come true. Now if I can only get that one about me and Eliza Dushku on a beach in the Caribbean to come true my life would complete. . .
Nah, I have no idea what you talking about when it comes to the Cossie Focus, but yes, they'd be stupid in the noggin not to bring an all wheel drive turbo car to the States. Hell, I never thought I'd catch myself saying this, but I've even consider driving a Peugeot 206 or a Citroen Xsara if they brought them over (all wheel turbo of course).
So, have you had your Subie on a dirt road at insane speeds? |

Oh you betcha, I've rallycrossed, autocrossed and I've been to the SCCA rally school. On the way to my parent's house in Moreno Valley, there's a nice dirt road I call the mini-stage, and I tear down it at 60mph+....its an easy road, only one left 90, with about 5 other corners less than 4, it's good fun.
Although one time I almost stuffed it, not because I was pushing too hard, but some dumb lady decided to park her huge truck..... RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD....so there I am doing about 60mph, into an easy 2 Left over crest, when I spot the truck......full ABS stopped about 10 feet from her truck, and sent a cloud of dust over the both of us. When it cleared, I saw that it was the animal control's truck. The reason for my visit to my parent's house was to verify that the fences had been fixed, since the dogs got out and caught. My 'rents were on vacation, so I had to make the trip out there. And there I was 10 feet from slamming into her truck! WHOOPS! But that still doesn't excuse it...parking in the middle of a dirt road like that? Even at moderate speed, if she had been any closer, she'd had gotten hit by anybody. When she did show up at the house though, I know she had to have recognized my car...how many blue Subarus do you see in an hour?....she said nothing. |

Have you been to the Super Autobacs store in Stanton yet? I was there the other day and in the parking lot was this dog ugly yellow Subaru WRX, but the person had put a taller suspension package on it, big fog lamps, the beefy style OZ wheels (like they use on gravel in the WRC), mud flaps and a rock guard on it. Other than the color, it looked cool, and it was dirty so (unlike most raised pickups) it wasn't just for show.
That's a great story by the way. Glad I wasn't in the car, I probably would have soiled your seat. . . |

| What kind of horror stories?? I just go there to look, there's nothing there for my car that I can't get at AutoZone or something. I mean, my Thunderbird doesn't need a carbon fiber hood and rear wing or spinner wheels. . . |

| I went a dug out some of my old Motor Trends and sure enough, I found a short article on the Cosworth Ford Focus. But, they didn't make it sound like it was going to get to the States. Maybe the WRX and Lancer Evo. will change their minds. I'm still waiting for the day that Toyota makes a WRC Matrix. . . |

Bah, I stopped reading American auto mags like Toad & Quack and Motor Tramp years ago.
Best mag out there----evo---- bar none. British mag, pricey, but worht every penny. You can get it at any B&N or Borders now. Actually all my fave mags are Britmags....TMMI, RallyXS, evo, Car, Air Forces Monthly, IAPR, etc...
Autobacs? Their service is crap, they treat their employees like crap, they don't have anything special, except the myiran of rice items to make the gaudiest, riciest car you can imagine. |

| Well, like I said, I go to Autobacs to look. They have a large selection of books, and their prices on Tamiya kits aren't any higher than the hobby stores. I have to agree with you on Air Forces Monthly, it's a great publication. Speaking of which, does anyone have the AFM book on the F-16? I was wondering how it compared with the DACO book. |

Back in the early '80s I ran in the SCCA SOLO II series in my old '74 Trans Am. We also ran a high-speed road course at TWS near Bryan TX. Here is a photo of me doing triple digits and still lifting the front end from 469 CID of Pontiac torque. I was clocked on radar at 147 MPH at the end of the back straight...
