How about what is public is public and search-able on the Internet already.

Why is someone polling for further information on a taboo topic in the first place?

Interjecting a little humor to deflect the topic, keep it light hearted and off 'details' is better than asking the MODs to kill the topic outright.

Yes, it is known what is/isn't out there (public documents)
Yes, it is known how they are used from fighter sized aircraft (historical accounts)
Yes, it is known the JSF program was to include what is out there (public program documents)
No, I don't think someone should be asking for details (personal/security belief)

Yes, I've been near enough to said weapons in the past to require 'special' briefings and fully understand the gravity of such munitions.
No, I don't want to EVER see them utilized for their ultimate purpose.

I do have to agree with Sferrin though, a question on this topic from someone with less than 10 posts does seem like an odd one; requiring a bit of sarcasm in response.

Cheers
TEG

No kidding. Which is why I was ribbing him for even asking about it.

Wake me up when any Indian aircraft can carry it. Laughing

Wakie wakie and smell the coffie.

"Trials for the integration of the missiles into the Indian Air Force (IAF) for air to surface launch have been successful. A new engine for missile launch in air has been developed. The final test-firing of missiles from Sukhoi-30 MKI will be undertaken shortly. After successful trials, the missiles will be integrated into the IAF jets by the year-end. “Indian Army and Navy have already been equipped with them,” he said."

There might be better sources out there, but there is an Sq or regiment of MKI wich have been upgraded to carry such weapons weight for NC deliveries.
The W-trials are on tracks.
Most certain it will beat much of F-35 ongoing W-trials by a good margine.

Seriously? Are you defending the troll?

I don't think any one of the so-called "elites" here are flippant about nuclear weapons... particularly when some have handled them or dealt with them in some way. Most people charged with that responsibility or considers take it quite seriously.

Really the biggest question surrounding the nuclear weapons is not which weapon but what will happen with the European stockpile (dual key weapons.) That's an interesting discussion, not some random troll asking increasingly improbable questions about nuclear weapons.

Meh, I'll sleep in.

For such a large delivery system (5510 lbs for the air-launched version), the range is rather short and the payload is awful small.

For information. weapons system like Brahmos is labeled under "Tactical conventional/NC delivery platform"

Just how, which and what other Tactical NC W-system launched from aircraft would you rather see?

I think the range, speed and weight of the Brahmos is impressive. And the Payload... it can carry a small NC warhead, how large does it have to be..?

Troll or grossly misinformed? I haven't looked at the guy's other posts (he did ask a pretty dumb question). In any case, the topic needs more attention than it gets. Unless the USAF and USN have been up to something we don't know about, tactical nuclear capability has been badly neglected for the past few decades, even as new, 2nd-tier nuclear threats have emerged. This being the 21st century, it seems absurd to me that the F-35's most powerful weapon should be a dumb-as-a-brick gravity bomb.

JASSM carries a bigger payload further while weighing less than half as much overall. Oh... and it also has real LO capability. As air-delivered platforms go, that would be my choice for tactical nukes. You find the Brahmos' weight impressive? I guess it's like that old joke about Russian computers being the best because they are the biggest in the world.

Dude.. the JASSM is subsonic.. Sad

Lets do this again. Why is the Brahmos large, heavy and with smaller warhead?
Cause it is an Tactical Supersonic delivery platform. But i guess you conviently forgot about this..
For anything to go that fast, something have to give. I thought this beeing obvious.

Sorry. If I was an 8 year old with a copy of Jane's, sheer speed might matter a little more to me.

"The final test-firing of missiles from Sukhoi-30 MKI will be undertaken shortly" Big difference between that and in service. Besides, Brahmos isn't all that considering how big and heavy the thing is.

*yawn*. And so big and heavy it's barely practical. (Assuming you can even target the thing.) Condor was as fast, bigger warhead, and less than half the weight - almost 40 years ago. At the time they decided it wasn't worth the cost and cancelled it. Indian fanboys love to think Brahmos is the be all and end all but seriously, *YAWN*.

With all that's been said, Brahmos is indeed a piece of junk IMO. Speed is nice, but you don't see us trying to make mach 6 superfighters and superbombers. Low observability is far more important for survivability of a missile or manned vehicle and considering the JASSM can carry a bigger warhead, I'd imagine that bigger warhead, when said bigger warhead is nuclear, would translate to far greater damage to a strategic target than whatever additional damage the sheer speed and kinetic energy of the Brahmos could supply as "compensation for a smaller warhead."
