This video showing BFM manouvering between an Danish Air Force F-16 and a Eurofigher support what your saying Wrightwing. The DK pilot commenting the video says that the F-16 fares good in dogfights against the EF especially at lower speeds.

I thought that the foreplane made life harder for the EF at low speed but better at high speed.

That video makes sense. The problem with such a proportionately large delta is that they tend to bleed off very large amounts of energy at very low speeds so the F-16 should have better energy manipulation abilities at low speed than EF.

On the other hand the canard does help mitigate the effects of mach tuck rather well as the Cp shifts back due to the plane going supersonic. Also with canards you add the lift they produce to the lift of the main wing when in a turn due to the direction the canards must deflect to actuate the turn as opposed to a tail.
