Hi johnwill !!!

I want to tell you thank you very much on the help in this subject !

The first thing I see is your area is not correct. I estimated the area as 1 ft x 4 ft for each of the four panels = 16 sqft. Your 47 sqft is much too large. Another difference is the speed. I estimated 150 kt, you used 180 kt, so there is a large difference due to velocity squared. I am not familiar with the the density in kg/m^3, so I have to assume that is correct. Density x v^2 /2 is called dynamic pressure (q). I used another equation to calculate q, q/mach^2 = 1480 lbf/sqft at sea level.

My numbers were just quick estimates to show the method I used, not intended to be a perfect answer. There is nothing wrong with your method, just double check the variables you used (especially area).

Edit:
I used the area for an F-16. Perhaps you used the F-15 area, as it is larger?

??? That has to mean "suggestion of alcohol" on flying days, huh? Otherwise, why have a sq. bar or an O club in the first place?

The big blue isn't THAT screwed up, is it?

Its funny to read the stuff from the older guys about stuff like that. They'd tie 5 or 6 on, crash for a few hours, strap on their sabre, go 100% ox and gather it in. Had to be brutal.

This is a superb community, sure 'nuf.

AB Scott,

Wish my Dad was still around to tell his stories. Flew numerous fighters. Told several 100% oxygen stories.

Also, told me how to light a cigarette at 35,000 feet, where a match won't light.

Just wish their were more stories of the old days that still might still be possible now. Not that lighting a cigarette at 35 K is something I need to do.

Hello,

My name is Yogev frome isreall i am learning mecanical engeniring

I am trying to calculate the forces on the F-15/F-16 air brake , (the draft )

But I am having some problems with it, is there anyone that could help me ?

Could it be that the draft force is 3 tons? (at leanding)

Thank you !!

Yogev .k

F-16 has a much better aero braking system than the F-15 (not sure of the tonnage load) F-16 has evenly distributed aero brakes (top and bottom) ... F-15 throws an ironing board into the airstream upon landing

You can't tell that you know a fun story without telling it!!! Know it's your fault that I won't sleep tonight. I will be staying awake all night wondering if it will work in our old MLU's......Question Question Question

With all that stuff hangin' on it, it sure looks Cat III.

Wouldn't that make it a Blue Flogger?

regards, OL

(I'd sure take it anyway. Still the best looking jet around.)

Yep all those bags. Definetly Cat III.

Just a pic of a jet transfer.

I'll say its a flanker because both jets in the picture with this config have about as much gas as a single Flanker Razz

Guy, evidently the way to light a cigarette where there is no oxygen is to supply it via the mask. Simply go 100% oxygen drop the mask, stick the cig in your teeth, now light the match about 6" from the mask, once lit bring the mask (again no closer than 6" from the flame) and match up to light the cig.
You have to fly with the mask 6" away from the cig until it is done or a relight will have to be accomplished. One of the dangers is the off chance that you'll remove all the facial hair on your face and aquire a no sun suntan if the 6" rule is violated.

Now having said this, I don't smoke and I definetly don't condone playing with fire and 100% oxygen. Let's just say it was a good story.

Must have been some long flights if guys used this proceedure to get a quick nicotine hit. Wow, talk about off topic.

Yogev, Sorry about Hijacking the thread.

Well I am sure Johnwill will agree with this statement, that the F-16 Fighter concept from cradle to .... is a challenege that has never been met by another company like General Dynamics and the team of engineers that it assembled to meet the challenge of aviation design in a whole different perspective than the planes of yesteryear and those being built today.
