Just finished watching a Russian news program about the possibility of selling large quantities of Su-30MK2s and Mi-35s to Venizuela. The Su-30MK2s are intended to replace Venizuela's aging fleet of F-16As which Venizuela cannot get spare parts from because of bad relations with the USA.
The Su-30MK2s preformed some aerobatic manuvers for the Venizuelian military officials. The Su-30MK2s were flown by Russian pilots, and a Venizuelian pilots were sitting on the back seats of the Su-30MK2s during the aerobatic display.
After that some Mi-35s took off and put up a nice display aswell.
Venizuelian officials said that they were very impressed by the preformance of the aircraft and are interested in buying dozens of Mi-35s (They did not mention how many Su-30MK2s Venizuela is thinking of buying).

Some pics of the main piece of equipment, the electro-optic gyro-stabilised turret (TV, FLIR and Optic channels, WFOV, NFOV, laser range-finder/marker) UOMZ GOES-342:

The GOES-342 uses the "Module-Avia" Thermal Imager from OUMZ.

Mi-35M also made use of OVN-1 "Skosok" NVG with II of 3rd gen.

No, sadly I was at home (El Libertador Air Base is some 70km west from here at Caracas), but if you want I can pass you the link of the state TV's report, it shows lots of show's stunts and the such, and as you don't understand spanish (or yes?) you will not laugh at our propaganda's attempts Very Happy

Sure send me the link.
Unfortunatly I don't understand Spanish, but I am used to hearing Russian propaganda attempting to convince you that a MiG-29 is better than an F-15 everytime I watch an airshow a military display or watch a documentary film about some weapon in Russian. Some one has to remind them how many MiGs were lost...

I'm Venezuelan, I hate Hugo Chavez, and waht I know about the Su-30?? ia that they want to purchase as much as 24 jets, but aren't new ones, are old Su-27 updated to the Su-30 std (russian only equipment, plus maybe some european radios to allow comm with our current equipment).

Our Governent said "this is the most powrful and lethal jetfighter on the world" what a joke...

Total: 4MMM US$ for Russia and the personal account of many Venezuelan Generals and some other High Level "Revolutionaires", one of such Just bougth a Gulfstram IV-SP parked at Maracaibo (SVMC) his last name is "Urdaneta" (the GIV ownwer).

Su-30?? Just for Propaganda and Terrorism against the Venezuelan Civilian population.

Hey guys, please could you make us a Favor? Pls expend as many as 24 Amraam on Live Target Practice with that POS Su's..

Can you provide a source for that?

Most Su-27s are single-seater (only the UB and PU are two-seater), while the Su-30 is a two-seater. Russia doesn't have too many UBs, so I don't see them transforming those into Su-30s and selling them away. To refurbish old single-seater Su-27 and transform them into Su-30s would be just as costly and more complicated than building new ones. There was also an article I read a while back regarding Sukhoi, it said that KNAAPO (the factory which builds the Su-30 MKK) had to spread and squeeze the Venezuelan order among the Su-30 MKA (for Algeria) due to the short term required.

Again, what is your source?

I agree with RoAF, Venezuela doesn't seem to have military budjet problems and can easily afford Su-30s (they would get their hands on more expensive and advanced aircraft if they could, but because of the political situation, thats the best they can get), which means that there is no reason for Russia to modify the few UBs and PUs that they have to the Su-30 standard when they can charge acouple of millions more per aircraft for brand new ones.

Most of the planes on order are single seater, my source is an active FAV officer.

The plane ordered are Su-30MK2 "like". No Canards, No TVC ...

First of all, canards and TVC are features which belong to the MKI, not MK2
The weapon system of the Su-30 MK2 (or MKK-the designation under which it was sold in China and Vietnam) needs a second crewmember, just like the F-15E. It can be done by a single pilot (the Su-27 SMK variant), but you risk overloading the pilot with tasks, proficiency will be lower.

Let's wait and see what is delivered.

The aircraft being delivered are 2 seaters. When I watched the Russian TV show about this, they interviewed a Russian pilot which said that they let Venezuelan pilots fly in the back seats.

All remember that this is a major PROPAGANTA operation (as Iran does) every body knows what also 24 Su-30MKI are useless to succefully defend Venezuela Agains the US NAVY or the USAF (at only 2 hr of subsonid fligth frm PR).
