Thats already been debunked as a Navy pilot breaking safety rules to do that....Check
didn't know there were rules in combat
It was USN vs USAF meaning they weren't in combat. It was in training and training has rules. I mean seriously what did the navy guy prove other than that he shouldn't be trusted in the cockpit? |

| Sure training has rules but that was a sweet picture. Pipper full of Raptor, lead flying, dead to rights. $13 worth of bullets hosing $100 million worth of fighter. |

TPS at Pax. River in the early 80's.
Plan the flight
Fly the plan
Plan to get hammered
I would love to buy 30MM DU shells at $13 per ripple shot. Hunting season would be great.
The F-18 driver broke the flight plan and, more important, the range safety rules.
If you get killed in combat its a win for the other side - unless you take them with you - then its a draw in which both parties lose. |

you can say whatever you want, the 18 had the advantage for that time it took to get the piper on. Its to say nothing against the 22 or anything. Pictures don't lie though. |

I posted in regards to that picture in another thread, you may want to read it before commenting on it...as pictures do lie.

| I wonder why both Rafale and Typhoon were absent at Red Fag? This is the best opportunity to show the world which one is the best fighter. |

yeah i hear you. I just get sick of the 22 nut hangers, who won't ever admit anything against the 22. I know its the best plane around right now and it's pretty much the sh*t. But, that doesn't mean it is invincible. |

The best fighters were in the Red Flag. It's neither the Rafale nor the Typhoon. |

I would never say its invincible...its the pilot and proper employment of the total system that counts. I worked closely with the Raptor program and when I see incorrect information, I post the correct info as long as its not classified. The snap shot in the photo more than likely would not have resulted in a real world kill, the bug driver gave up any advantage he had to snap on him and he broke the rules in place for training. As far as I'm concerned a severe reprimand would do him/her good. Nothing is worth an accident in training that could kill yourself or others. No doubt though...I'd be impressed with the pic if it had been legit....Check |

Regarding the possibility of the raptor being tagged by an AMRAAM, or even an AIM-9X- and for all the people who say the raptor is dead against HOBS/JHMCS in the WVR arena- here is a snippet from an article right here on f-16.net:
Quote:
"I can't see the [expletive deleted] thing," said RAAF Squadron Leader Stephen Chappell, exchange F-15 pilot in the 65th Aggressor Squadron. "It won't let me put a weapons system on it, even when I can see it visually through the canopy. [Flying against the F-22] annoys the hell out of me."
Of course, all it takes is the wrong circumstance, or a lucky shot, or a malfunctioning F-22 system, and a kill can be scored. Nothing is invincible, but losing only one airplane in an enviornment like Red Flag is something to be proud of. |

Again, the point of Red Flag is not for a bunch of fighters to meet over the Nellis Range at "High Noon" and blow the Sierra out of each other. That crap is for the movies, and XBox games. Red Flag's purpose is to teach you how to properly take part in an air war. Make the war more overwhelming than any actual shooting war could ever be. That way, our aircrews will be prepared when an actual shooting war comes along.
All types of planes are there for Red Flag. Fighters, Bombers, AWACS, EW, Cargo, SAR, and Tankers. Each has a very important job to do there. It's not just a bunch of fighter jocks trying to notch kills. If someone shows up to Red Flag with that mentality, he'll be taking a very quick trip back to his base.
Besides, if the Rafale, and Typhoon both showed up at Red Flag, they would be on the allied side, fighting against the Aggressors and simulated ground forces, not trying to kill Raptors.
And again, if it's going to help our aircrews learn how to not make the same mistakes in actual combat, then I don't mind seeing "losses" occur at Red Flag. It's all for the sake of learning, and making yourself better prepared for the real thing...and that is ultimately what's most important.
