| Life was great back in the late 80's, Back when It was TAC, MAC & SAC. Thats all we did was work hard and play even harder. After the 1st gulf war you could see the change coming. To many base closures and personnel reduction. Some of the great bases are long gone along with the watering holes. |

Political correctness was the final straw however, when bars like Miramar had to tone everything down after Tailhook. |

| Its always fun to see what kind of loot the guys/ gals have stolen from other units and posted in their bars. I saw a CINCSAC parking place sign posted on the wall at a unit which will remain nameless. I would have liked to heard the story from the folks that stole it! |

| "The Zone" at Kunsan, no rules play a key factor in this decision as well as dollar you call its. USAFADS "Perch" is the nicest I have seen. |

Sorry, but I can't really comment on the "design" of the Squadron bars I've been in to. To me, it's not the design that makes the bar, it's the culture and creed of the men who inhabit the bar that matters the most. I'll take a a dark, messy rathole with a bunch of great bros over a squeaky-clean museum-quality room full of backstabbing pansies any day.
Squadron bars are under attack all over the USAF, particularly in the ANG. A ot of places have closed their doors completely, even more are under such a microscope that nobody hangs out in them anymore, anyways.
That being said, I was fortunate enough to visit the Delta House over in the Kun this past summer, and it brought a smile to my face. Good dudes, a push-it-up attitude, and a lot of fun. If I had to pick one stateside, I'd have to say the Taco Bar even though it's lost some of it's luster. Too many memories from there, I guess.
How's this for a great design? |

Chuckie hit the nail right on the head.
Back in the day we had 2 bars all within stumbling distance of the Ops building from which to choose from, and that was on a Guard base. It was not uncommon to have strippers on drill weekends, and to come to drill the next morning and find windows broken and half the furniture thrown all over the lawn.
The first one was closed around 1994 and was turned into a friggin paint booth, but we kept the other one alive a kicking for another 10 years. Slowly the strippers quit coming, and then we started getting commanders that were less than excepting of drinking and general morale boosting activities.
In about 04' we had to remove all of the stuff from the walls, and had to be able to hide the bar and walk-in cooler becasue it was not considered the PAX terminal, and could only be used as a bar on drill weekends. Then last year our new "Commander" decided that since our unit has spent the better part of the last 25 years abusing him he closed the bar and turned it into a gym, a damn nice gym, but it hurts to walk in there and remember all of the mayhem that used to go on in that very room.
So we found a bar at a Ramada hotel jut outside the gate that agreed to drink and food specials on drill weekends, and to people from the base, so we just moved our operation there. That lasted a whole 3 months before some whiny SP decided that she did not like everyone drinking in uniform and went straight to the Wing CC (same guy who closed the bar), he showed up the next day at the new bar and told everyone in uniform to get out and never come back.
That guy has done more to kill the morale of our unit in the last year than we could ever have imagined. People just leave and go home now after drill, no more hanging out having fun, playing crud in the bar, getting a lap dance, hitting on the new girls in the unit, none of that. It's just go to drill, get your stuff done and then drive straight home.

| The old Rod and Gun club or "Hook and Bullet" as we called it at Bitburg was great. I remember the last night it was open everyone was allowed to trash the place. They even put holes though outside walls. |
