Hello everyone- this is my first post.

Anyways, here's the deal. I'm a high school senior, I got my appointment to the Air Force Academy and West Point and and AFROTC 4 Year Scholarship. I have always wanted to fly fighters since I can remember so I want to go to the AF Academy but I want to be sure I am medically qualified to go to UPT. If I can't be a pilot a will go to West Point and try for Infantry Officer because I am not very interested in a support job in the military. I am joining to fight for my country, not to have a desk job.

My question is this- Is there any way I can get a flight entry physical- the one you get before you go to UPT- before I decide what school I will go to? I have a family member that is a reservist at Wright Patterson AFB so she is trying to get me hooked up with a flight surgeon but does anyone know of any way I can get this done if that doesen't work?

I don't have any wierd medical problems other than having flat feet- got a waiver though- and my familiy doesen't have any history of problems so I'm pretty sure I am but I just want to know for sure before I decide which academy to go to.

Any info would be appreciated. Thanks.

True..it is very cool to have a choice!

My oldest grandson Jake was recently accepted to the Air Force Academy too but he had also won a 'free ride" (full scholarship) to Arizona State University (ASU) in Tucson (the kid is one smart dude and a hell'va an athlete).

Anyway, I was blown away with his situation (and jealous too)..after carefully considering his choices and lifestyles, he chose ASU but is still part of their ROTC Program. I guess he wanted to have his cake and eat it too. He starts school in two weeks at ASU.

I would have crapped myself and felt like I had hit the lottery if it had been me, I am glad he chose the path he did. He can relax a bit, have some fun, he has the rest of his life to get serious.

Congrats on getting in...it's a tough process. As long as you're in good shape, have good eyes (not color blind, they can correct poor vision), and don't have any other problems at all, there shouldn't be a reason why you shouldn't be able to get a pilot slot out of the Academy. Just make sure you get good grades so that you can compete to get a slot. Sometimes you don't even need to do all that well. A guy in my squadron last year was near the bottom of his class and still got one. Also, if you can't fly, there's more to do in the AF besides support. You can be a combat rescue officer, special tactics officer, or security forces. If you have any specific questions you can send me a messege.

Jeff Haub,

If you are in the WPAFB area;

give me a whistle at Tengu_Flyer@hotmail.com

I know a qualified flight physician who is capable of giving Class I flight physicals in the area and I can give you a point of contact if your interested. The flying requirements for USAF are Flying Class I plus DOBMERB completion; and the height/weight/age requirements which can be done on one's own. You will need to pass a DOBMERB no matter which path you decide on so thats no an issue. I'm sure any of the pilots on this forum can give you a height and weight requirement for their air frame.

I don't think that matters until you actually get to UPT.

Any Academy grads wanna chime in? I know you get your AFSC before you come down from 7,258 ft ASL...
