I refuse to watch Frecce Tricolori live. Never have had the chance to, and I'm not sure whether they are allowed to perform in the States, after that $hit they pulled at Ramstein in 89. Very Bad Stuff...Anyway, I enjoy how the Blues have augmented sneak pass portion of their routine. I guess they figured out that most people will be looking down, and to the left after the Diamonds do their slow pass (Hint Hint.) Of course, #5 shows up, on cue. Still awesome though, when he blows by you, about 100 ft off the deck, doing about .98 Mach. Now, as far as how the routine has been augmented. No sooner has #5 screamed by in front of you, then #6 comes up from your 6 o'clock, going just about as fast. TWO transonic passes within 1 or 2 seconds of each other. To quote Jeff Spicoli, "Awesome! Totally Awesome!"

Actually, I have only seen the blue angels once, at McGuire AFB in NJ. They only had them one time, and the tb's the other times.

My little Brother actually peed his pants whent they pulled that trick and flew right over us. I fell down, he fell and peed [Link pending approval] actually, he did that the previous year when the Thunderbirds did the high speed pass.

I wouldn't worry about the F-35 being ugly as it is.

the YF-22 was pretty ugly, and they managed to make it look MUCH nicer in the final production F-22. Lockeed will change the F-35 a bit as well, and I'm sure they have more time and money to make it look better too.

Laughing Laughing Laughing Yep!!! By the time you see 'em you've already jumped outta your shoes, wearing whatever frosty beverage you were holding, and swearing like the tower controller from "Top Gun" Smile . When you see 'em at low elevation locations the pass is done at almost 700 KIAS, maybe more depending on the CADC. WOW!! Cool

..."one of your snot-nosed jocks did a flyby on my tower! I want somebody's BUTT! I want it NOW! I've HAD IT!" Laughing Laughing That always makes me laugh. Yeah down here in practically 0 elevation Florida, you get the dual awesome effect. Not only 2 transonic passes, but also, the humidity makes for a really cool looking "Sonic Cone" surrounding the jets.

What crap are you talking about? when they did their crossover move? That was caused by a LG failure. The Frecce Tricolori fly a more precise show than the TBs or BAs.

Ah, oh well. Apples and Oranges I guess. I'd rather watch the Blues fly, more than any other team, any day. If the WX is good, you're always going to get a good, quality program. Dunno if Frecce Tricolori flies the same jets they did a decade ago (alas, I don't keep up with them) but watching demo teams fly, that aren't in a supersonic fighter, doesn't really do it for me. Sorta like, a lot of guys think J-Lo is really hot, but she just doesn't do it for me. Give me Molly Sims anytime! Very Happy

What good is a supersonic fighter in a non-supersonic show? Yes I know the transonic sneak passes and such are great, and I love them as much as the next guy. But the Frecce Tricolori, Patrouille de France, and Escuadrillha da Fumaca fly some more tehcnical, and precise maneuvers than the Blues or Birds. Yeah, apples and oranges in a way, but as far as technical skill the Italians, French, and Brazilians have an edge. Watch some more demos from them, you'll see.

Hmmm, good question. Lemme think, what good IS a supersonic fighter in a non-supersonic show? Well, the fact that they have afterburners helps. I like a good UBER-NOISY show! You can never go wrong in this category if you are watching, say, the F-14 Demo. For some reason, that plane is very loud, even louder than a 15. On the noise scale, I'd say it was on par with maybe an F-4...Actually, now that I think about it, a Tomcat might even be louder than Double-Ugly. Either way, the "Grim Reapers" Tomcat Demo Team (VF-101) puts on a great show.

Yes they do! I've got a pic from the twilight show at Miramar last year, but I'll have to scan it at home.

I just remembered this pic and thought It'd make somebody jeleous. Even though Im a bigger BA fan I had my camara on me for the airshow trying to take pictures across the flight line at Wings and Waves 2001 in Daytona Beach. Both Number 7 and Number 5 had developed a hydrolic problem that needed to be fixed, and since Embry-Riddle had nicer facilities then the Daytona Jet Center, we offered our space for there use. So im scheduled for a VFR in a 172 that day, and Im almost finished with my preflight so I take a few pictures on the camara from about 400 yards of the T-birds on the Tarmack. Get back in the plane to ramp out and out of the corner of my eye, here they come wheeling the 2 birds out of our mantinance hanger. I threw a chain and chalk on the plane, locked it, and moved my a$$ (cant run on the flightline) to go get some pics. Got 4 or 5 and then asked if somebody could take this one.

Well, I only was there a year and a half before I realized I could do all of it alot more cost effective somewhere else. And I got tired of having to sit around with my thumb up my a$$ waiting for flight time because they dont have enough instructors.
