I am looking for a new job with the ability to use my military F-16 training
I was an F-16 crew chief for the 523 fighter squadron for 4 years in new Mexico and I was discharged due to a motorcycle accident at the time I was an E-4 in the military and had my 5 level on the jet.
Iif anyone has any information on where to apply please let me know please.

| Hey, amazing, I pulled some duty in Vietnam with the 523rd FS (F4's out of Clark AB). I had not heard that name since 1971. Glad to hear the squadron is still going strong...good luck in your search |

Edwards AFB civil service ... www.usa.com or www.edwards.af.mil for application procedures. Nellis is going civilian in 2 years, however an A-10 just recently dropped a battlefield illumination flare over North Las Vegas so more ammo for the folks who want to redevelop Nellis and push the combat aircraft out. Boeing does Fallon in Northern Nevada I see mechanic jobs out there frequently. Hill AFB in Utah and DM in Arizona post jobs frequently as well. www.af.mil - AF personnel center - civilian - job search
Good luck |

here is one catch I was discharged with an other than honarable not dishonerable because I had a bad motorcylce accident so I don't know how hard it will be to obtain my security clearance but I have since sent in my paperwork to have my discharge reclassified it may take 6 months I don't know if this would have any effect at lh or any other company

Anybody know if they are still "tagging" DD214s with the secret discharge code? At one time, discharges were coded and employers could look up the codes to see what the status of the discharge was.
Yo Justin, are you telling us everything about your accident? It doesn't sound like it. Not that you need to, but if you take the same "I've got a secret" attitude with prospective employers, that is a bad thing. If you did something wrong, suck it up and admit it, it's better in the long run. I wasn't exactly an angel myself (Article 15 with OLC, and V for Valor).
Best Regards, |

| Most employers are looking for people who show up for work and aren't high or drunk. Don't hide the discharge, talk about if they ask. You didn't get crazy on your bike did you? I had a guy in my flight that rode real aggressive i.e. wheelies in the parking lot but the final straw was a 140mph speeding ticket, he was discharged while in jail, yes they can do that. |

But I think there is more here then meets the eye, your right of course but there is something else and it might be having an adverse effect on his applications, only he knows so it is kind of hard to understand or not speculate here.
Anyway, good luck with it...hope it works out for ya |

I was at Cannon in NM from 96-00. I was originally an EF-111 crew chief, but when they phased those out I switched to the 524 fs and became an F-16 crew chief.
I can vouch for this guy, because I had a friend who was released with a general discharge for medical reasons as well. I didn't think it was fair being that he was injured on the job, (he got hit in the back with a tail hook), but it is what it is.
As far as the unfair treatment goes, you'd just have to have been there to understand. I don't know about now, but back then Cannon was by far the worst AFB in the Air Force!
Good luck to you! |
