Thought it was about time I FINALLY joined this great forum...after all, I've been coming here (and learning a great deal) for some time now. As my subject line says, I've worked on both the F-16 as well as the F/A-18 programs including on both simulators (Singer-Link and Hughes Aircraft) so I LOVE BOTH of these aircraft. Hmm..too tell ya the truth, I love just about ALL military fighter jets and that is especially true for the (dare I say it?)...err...okay the SU-27x and MiG's as well there I said it !!!
But most of all, I admire the incredible pilots who fly these aircraft and sacrifice their lives every day for their country. I see there are many on this forum and a couple have even been kind enough (in person) to even thank me for a "job well done" on the APG-65 Radar (F/A-18 radar) where I was Member of the Technical Staff on the transmitter portion of this Hughes Aircraft project. It was great to have these brave pilots come back from Gulf War I, and compliment my work (which was truly a dedicated, team-effort) and telling me of their adventures and how they felt that the radar was THE very best "subsystem" of the aircraft...and I believe they were sincere, too.
I also want to thank those "jet jocks" out there (here) that "took me up" so many times...thank you for getting us BACK DOWN again in one PIECE ! I've had the good fortune (okay, so I WAS "forced" to go-up the FIRST time or I'd lose my job ) of catching a ride from both US Air Force AND US Navy pilots (as well as some "old" Mac Air Test Pilots...hi Jeff !!) - what could be more FUN than having your guts turned inside-out while getting crushed by an g-suit while pulling 7+ g's ? Even got to "take the stick" on a few occasions...no fancy maneuvers or nothing but STILL what a BLAST!!!
So yeah, I'm an "old fart" in the "community" I reckon but so what? I'd love to take the F-22 for a spin some day (yeah, that'll happen ), or perhaps one of the many new, "fifth-generation" fighters (like to fly that S-37 Forward Swept-Wing baby their working on in Russia right now..the "Berkut" or "Golden Eagle"!!!!) - oh well, one can always dream...or fly the simulator, right ?
Thanks for having me here and oh, if you live in the Colorado Springs area, let me know okay ?
Best wishes,
Wayne aka "CheckinMySix" |
