The Bird in Hand Pub, just outside the gate at RAF Mildenhall, U.K.
Is it still a fun and cool place? |

2002 for me, when I was working for Northrop Grumman, I was managing the USAF HW F-16 LG effort. I discovered SP Aerospace a couple of years earlier and I made a deal with those folks to overhaul the landing gears for Thailand and Italy gears at Eindhoven, The Netherlands.
I traveled to Holland to meet and review their factory (overhaul facility) processes, I stopped in England, my oldest girl was then stationed at Mildenhall. I brought my wife with me on this trip, we stayed in England for five days touring and I just had to stop by the Bird in Hand Pub.
It was one of the first Pubs I had ever been too in that area when I first was stationed in the UK back in 1972. It felt strange and great at the same time, knowing I had first been there thirty years earlier. It used to be the place to find friends and women, now it was more like a "sports bar" shame, I liked the old Pub atmosphere better. |

| I last was there in 2002. When I was in Moldy Hole in the mid-90's, we used to get our fill of fish and chips there before going out to Newmarket/Cambridge or coming back on base to close the Galaxy Club (the old one, not the crappy new one). It was a lot shorter walk back in the day, before they increased security. BTW, I always liked going TDY spending the night at RAF Mildenhall and staying at the Smokehouse. Close enough to be within walking distance of the Class VI but off base per diem!!! WOOT!!! |

Eggroll, you da man, I could not agree more - I sure miss those fun days. I am going to visit the UK this February, I will ensure I stop at the old watering hole and toast you boys- Salute
I loved the UK, had more then there then anywhere else collectively - amazing, London rocks too
When I first got there I was twenty years old - drove an E-Type (Rag) man, what a wold time that was. Lost count of the concerts I went too and woke up in many strange places (always had a blast though) |

| Last time I was there was during AirFete 1996, good times, but the best part was that the local girls could still get into the galaxy club without a sponsor. So when you mix an airshow, with local girls, with massive amounts of booze, you get a very good combination. |
