Lightning II is an ironic name as the F35 has no lightning protection as this was removed from the design as part of the weight reduction activities and therefore has no lightning clearance

Do you really think Lockheed Martin want this information made public. Just take it from me from an inside source this is the case.

If you think this is bad you want to hear the rest unfortunalty most of it is classified and therefore cannot be released

There is no way possible that the air force would fly a combat jet without some sort of electro static and lightning protection

Alot of "take it from me" and "trust me, I know" here. Especially regarding something that is the backbone of an electronic systems battlefield survivability. Anyone who really knew of any shortfalls or capabilities like these, surely wouldn't be stupid enough to put this kind of information here. Texasbrit- I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if I were you and the FBI and a few DoD reps showed up at my door, just for posting something like that. Why don't you go ahead and tell us the MTBF rate, top speed, real RCS, and programing code for the avionics, since you're so "in the know"? You've already shown that non-disclosure agreements and confidentiality mean nothing to you, regardless of if you're right or wrong. Kudos to you, genius!

Absolutely 100% agree with you VPRGUY. If you know something that sensitve please keep it to yourself and don't talk about it just because you know that kind of info and want to show off and show people how much you know. That's just stupidity in my book... Might as well tell us the IFF modes of operation while you're at it.

Thank you to the moderators for removing that information from the public domain.

I guess the lightning strike wouldn't be an issue if only the F-35 had been developed by EADS. Rolling Eyes

Credit where credit is due... the poster realised that the data he used in an effort to substantiate his claim, was a little too sensitive and retrospectively removed it himself.

Wait one second. Isn't anyone here aware of the whistleblower concept? Perhaps Texasbrit shouldn't be posting inside information on this board--if in fact he really does have access to such information--but at the same time, this aircraft *is* being paid for with taxpayer money, and if indeed the USAF and the contractor have been so astoundingly short sighted as to field an aircrat that could potentially be useless during a thunderstorm, we do have a right to know about it. I realize that many people on this board are in the military, but remember that the military is *ALWAYS* subject to civilian control and oversight, as well it should be. There is no reason whatever why we as civilians should trust this "Trust me, we know what we're doing" attitude from either the military, government contractors or government. Don't forget that as a civilian, I pay for your salary, I pay for your equipment and at some level implicitly have a say in military strategic and procurement policies by virtue of my right to vote. I think some of the posters on this board need to be reminded that we civilians are your employers and your bosses. Don't forget that for one second.

Whistleblowing can be done in a non-public way through proper channels. Posting classified info aint' the way to do it. I'm a civilian, too, but I'll personally lock up anyone who engages in espionage or commits treason. Talk to the bosses and congressmen, but don't blab it on a public board.

I just wish I wasn't a civilian sometimes Wink .
