In some versions of the nuclear consent panel, there is a switch that has two positions:
1) suit pressure
2) off
What is the function of this switch?
thanks! |

Heh heh heh heh!
ROFLOL!
I and the others on this BB could give a hoot about the procedures to arm and drop a nuke from the Viper.
Let me tell all who read this BB about being certified and qualified and authorized to carry and deliver nukes...........
The PAL codes and other procedures required to actually arm and then drop and then have the damned thing blow up make it very hard for folks with a mean spirit to be successful. Then there's the 'sobriety test' which I shall not describe, but Cylon, STBY and a few others know what I mean.
My greatest fear was to escape and evade all the SAM's and Migs and other threats on my way to destiny. Then have the stupid thing not blow up!
You see, I always like to see things blow up! Even as a yute, I enjoyed throwing a cherry bomb wrapped in clay into the river or bayou where I lived. Sucker would crack nder the water, and turtles, gars, perch and other creaures would float to the top. Being born on the Bayou has a certain flavor.........
I am not sure about you, "falcon-watcher", but I would lay low for a while as we check you out. And you can take this to the bank - we have our means.........
"You can run, but you'll only die tired"
interesting question from outta the blue, don't you think other Viper pilots? |

Err, falcon-watcher, I suppose you'd like to get nuclear codes too, only for collecting pleasure? |

Loader,
I remember all of that and the cookies. Why is it the pilot always had to piss after he and the crew chief was "married"? |

Good grief, habu-two!
I always took a leak under the tail of my jet before 'mounting her'!
That goes way back to 1964.
Seemed like a good idea to leave a 'scent' for her to come back to.
Don't know about other folks, but IT SURE AS HELL WORKED FOR ME!!!
BTW, on the B-61 ("dial a nuke") I always planned to dial the sucker up to max setting. No wimpy 100 kiloton doofer for Gums. I wanted the biggest mushroom I could get. I also planned to 'ripple' two, and hell with the SIOP!
Oh well, crude, raw humor from those of us who have hung it out a few times. Keeps your last iota of sanity most of the time........... |

Yeah I know like WTF? Adjust it for the max output. No sense wasting tax payers dollars by setting it for a little bang . You don't want to make the ... in those days, SAC pukes laugh at you. Save the little nukes for the artillery pukes. I hear the F-100 guys had it a little difficult. The nuke loadout made it not fun to drive cause it was a little asymetrical. |

| Falcon-watcher I'll answer your question, which if I read it correctly, what is the purpose of the "suit pressure" switch. The switch is non functional and no other information is given about the switch. |

| Lee, you're right. Once two people were tied together someone always had to go. |

| Hey falcon-watcher! The one really really important thing to remember about dropping a nuke from a fighter was to bend over and kiss your butt goodbye, after punching it off. I always figured that to be a one-way ride anyway. Just glad that (myself not being a pilot) I never had to be put in that position. Oh yeah, and we could tell you all you wanted to know about the nuke consent panel, but we'd have to call the Men in Black shortly afterwards to zap your memory!! (Vincent Price-style maniacal laugh) HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!! |

Hope that step is taken out on nuke practice stuff. I pity the second person that has to be there because of the two "man" policy. |

Setting 2)OFF is the pre-detonation setting
Setting 1) SUIT PRESSURE is the post-detonation setting, since most pilots will have sh*t their pant by then, the bleed air from the engine pressurizes the suit from the neck down so you don't have to smell it. |
