I recently came across fake patches of the Royal Netherlands Airforce F-16 Demo Team.
How to tell the fake from the original (see scans for comparison: Aviation Patch Supplies original on left, fake one on the right in all three scans):
Patch
-The original has vertical stitches in the small circle and not horizontal as in the fake.
-The Orange dot in the roundel is much larger in the fake
-The Orange lines are darker in the original
-The back of the original is Black, the copy is Grey
Swirl
-The Grey circle at the top of the patch is flat, not round
-The Grey used for the circles is darker than the original
-The bird's wings are red brown instead of brown in the original
-The Brown used in the wings and head of the Falcon is lighter than the original
-The 'g' in Fighting has a flat underside in the fake patch
-The letters of the text 'RNLAF' are one size in the fake but not so in the original
Needless to say steps will be taken against this person to stop further distribution of these fakes and stop copyright infringment.
If you have fakes, or if you are not sure you have a fake one or an original, or if these fake patches are offered to you please contact: robin@[Link pending approval]

This thread has been relaunched as the principle idea sounds good to us. We want to help our fellow F-16 patch collectors spot the wood through the trees when it comes to avoiding purchases of 'fake' patches.
If you have other examples such as the ones listed above, please post here. Using the above as the master example, provide scans of the original and fake [repro] sitting side by side, Front and reverse images for comparison.
What to definitely avoid is finger pointing and naming of people as culprits for producing, distributing or selling fakes/reproductions. We will interject and remove offending messages as we are not here to provide a open forum for bad mouthing of others.
If you feel strongly about a post or have definitive evidence about a known source and can prove there selling/producing, then PM or email the forum editors with your evidence and we can judge if its worthy of adding in this section.
REMEMBER the aim is to help you get the real patch for your collection and not a disappointing piece which may have cost you a load of money or a good trade patch in exchange!! |

| The special crew version of the 2005 RNLAF demo team swirl has also been copied. It has the same characteristics as the fake demo team swirl except the text 'RNLAF solo display team' is in gold. |
