Hi,
I know that, after the EMVO they will tell me what to fly, but the user of 'fighter pilot' seemed to me as the best choice to make people clear what kind of training it is.
I am well aware of the situaton. |

because of your eyesight you have alreadt been excluded from the F-16.
This is interesting. So in RNLAF your eyesight matters for different types of aircraft? You can be a Herc driver with bad eyesight but not a viper? Makes sense in way if we were living in the 40s. Some countries get around this silly requirement by posting their eye requirements as "NO REFRACTIVE ERROR" 7 out of 10 individuals have some sort of refractive error, eye exams even result different from eye doc to another if the error is unnoticably slight. I said silly, it is my opinion and don't want to offend anyone, forgive me on that, I know most European Air Forces do not have 2000+ viper fleet.
In USAF, once you pass your FC1, you can either fly a Pavehawk or a Viper, eyesight doesn't matter in aircraft qualification if you meet the posted requirement which -1.50D myopic.
Bramage... Go for the AH-64Ds... |

Well for the Viper you need some good eyes this is lesso then on a herc. And yes I agree they are alot stricter. But you pointed out the reason, we have much less but to compensate we focus much more on quality (and I know alot of USAF pilots that have experienced the RNALF or any Smaller European Nation will agree on that) and we put much more into trainign aswell. We can't afford to have alot and to compensate we have to get the best we can get. |

By the way driver, I ain't excluded for the F-16...
I asked the eye 'tester' a dozen times and she told me I was able to be trained for ALL aircraft including the F_16, so did the doctor say as well during our last conversation on my medical test.
I'm sorry |

Driver, like I said, many European air forces have small fighter fleets, but in my opinion using strict physical qualification regulations to narrow the qualified applicant pool is wrong and hard as well. Now let's take Bramage for example, he might make a perfect fighter pilot, he might have the actual skill for it but his eyesight is not actually his fault. You know it is not the eyesight but also other talents. Leadership, getting the job done and etc like skills, being smart not a slow motion sheep, whatnot.
Trust me, picking the perfect guy when it comes to physical qualification doesn't make anyone's airforce "best" out there. |

Hello all!
Long time no see
Last friday I finished the selections for the RNlAF, and today I received a call, they hired me! February 5th 2007 my training will start, we'll start with a basic military training lasting a year, at the Royal Military Academy at Breda.
Thereafter the EMVO (Elementary Military Flight Training) starts, this phase lasts 6 months and thereafter the Air Force will anounce wich aircraft we will be assigned to (Chinook, Cougar, Apache or F-16), and then we'll move to the USA for 2 years to follow our type-specific training.
I am so happy! |

Hope you get the Apache, at least then we (including Steve) will all have something in common... |

Er, I actually never post at Frugals, I only have an account and in the past I've posted a little... sometimes
Do you fly Apache?
Actually, regardless of that "in common" thing I hope I will get assigned to the F-16, that really is my dream. |

| Umm, I don't think you are the Bramage I am talking about, because he does post at Frugal's frequently and he has a tribute webpage and a thread for CW2 Steven Shephard we lost last year. He was an Apache pilot. I am an Apache crew hoping to fly it. |
