Hello Astra,

At first they were supposed to go to the 57 FW at Nellis AFB, NV, adding a regular "combat" element to that base. This has, however, been changed so instead the 18 FS will stay atEielson AFB and the base will even gain a permanently based aggressor squadron with Block-30 F-16s. The 18 FS flies Block-40s.

Many greetings,

Henrik.

The A/OA-10 squadron, the 355FS is being sent to Moody AFB, and the AKANG KC-135 unit (168 ARW) is staying.
The Agressor move to Eielson makes sense since Cope Thunder has evolved into Red Flag North.

Hello Arctus,

Many thanks for Your information!! The A/OA-10 move to Moody AFB was new to me.

Any news regarding the incoming aggressors - from which unit, exact Block-number etc.??

Many greetings,

Henrik

There is talk around base right now that it is going to be a squadron of Block-40's.

ETA: Arctus where do you work if you don't mind me asking?

I retired 30 Jun 05 and moved back to Anchorage. I was in the OSS(spit, spit, spit) as Wing LS Superintendent. I still keep in contact with a few of "my" old troops in the 18th...Newbill and Polizzi mostly.

Hello all,

It sounds very interesting, if the new Eielson aggressor unit will stand up with Block-40s!! The only Block-40s I can think of coming available are the current ones in the 27 FW / 524 FS "Hounds of Heaven / Dogs of War" at Cannon AFB, NM.

My bet would be that these Block-40s - the ONLY Block-40 outfit to close after the BRAC - will go to other "regular" Block-40 squadrons at Hill AFB, UT, or Block-40 units aboard. I would not imagine that these "high demand" Blocks for the Active units would become aggressor - but I have been surprised before!!

Greetings,

Henrik.

Very old thread, but new and relevant news concerning this topic. Yes--the Eielson F-16s are moving here to Elmendorf in 2013.

I know it's probably way to early for anyone to know this, but i was wondering if anyone knows if there will be an associate reserve unit working with the aggressors when they come down to Elmendorf?
