I was just wondering how much pilots make in Special Pay? My dad was asking me about how Pilots in the USAF are paid; I was able to show him the Officer's Bracket, and mention the bennefits of living on base or shopping at a Base Exchange, but I also remember being told that Pilots got Special Pay too for whatever reason.

Thanks Roscoe But here is something I cant find on Google that maybe you or someone else knows about...
I know you can recieve Special Pay for knowing certain foreign languages too. However, I've heard rumors that as a pilot this has some bumps and ripples in the road, concerning TDYs and flight time. Does anyone care to indulge?

| Can't answer that one. I would assume that foreign language pay is for anyone who can test out as proficient...never heard that pilots weren't eligible. |

| Yes, you can get paid extra every month for testing as knowing another language. I believe spanish doesn't count. You need not use the foreign language as a part of your job to get the special pay. |

I heard you take a test, and if you pass it, you go on a list so that everytime your base/unit needs somebody that speaks the language you do, if your "number is up" you get called to translate. You do get a stipend every month, which depending on what language it is and how in demand it is, drives the amount of the stipend. Probably something like Chineese or Russian will pay more than a more commonly spoken language, since less people speak it. Be careful, if you are really rusty and don't keep up with it, you can make yourself look bad!!!!!!!! |
