I just found out about this and thought I'd share, even if I'm shooting myself in the foot Smile .

Ford is sponsoring a sweepstakes to promote thier new Fusion car and the grand prize is better than just a new car Very Happy ! Yep, you get a trip to San Diego, a new Ford Fusion, $1000 spending cash, a tour of the MCAS Miramar flightline and museum, and three sorties in an L-39 with the last one being air combat against NASCAR driver Carl Edwards!

Now, I'm more of a Chevy guy, but Carl's a pretty cool driver from what I've seen, I wouldn't mind a new car, I'd like to see my hometown, and I could sure go for some turbine time Thumb !

Good luck!

If he beats you, will he do a backflip out of the cockpit after he lands? Laughing

TC, sadly, we'll never know the answer. If I do manage to win the sweepstakes, I can assure everyone that I will be victorious in the air Thumb !

Doesn't look like anyone is going to be doin' any BFM as far as I can see. One of the aircraft you'd be flying in is no more!?

The L-39 (N39DF) aka "Wild Child" which "was" one of the nicest L-39's around, is now a smoking crater on the side of a CA mountain. It went down Sunday 1630PST near California City with Terry Fregly at the controls who I met though the CJAA once or twice.
I know "Wild Child" had COLD seats, meaning the Rocket Motor in the Ejection Seats had been removed, so he had no chance to punch out.

The jet was doing part of the filming for the movie you'd be in if you won... We'll have to wait & see WTF Ford's going to do with this Cluster Foxtrot.

Parrothead, I have no doubt in my mind you would kick his a$$! Thumb

Just ask for an airplane that has HOT seats!!

Tyger,

Airplanes crash and I can handle the loss of the machine, but my prayers go out to the pilot and the back seater. It's a sad day for all and I wouldn't blame Ford if they cancel the entire operation.

If they do go ahead with it and the jet they stick me in has cold seats, I'll be sure to remember the emergency crash position - put my head between my knees and kiss my @$$ goodbye Very Happy !

Thanks for the vote of confidence there, Tyger. I know Carl Edwards drives in NASCAR races, but I drive the I-15 and I-95 "Raceways" with total idiots and I'm still alive with no damage to my car Laughing !

I'll go for a ride in the Starfighters' Zipper anytime - hot seats, baby Thumb !
