16spec,

You haven't read Air Space Smithsonian lately, have you Wink ? They talk about the spec ops guys going in on choppers with fast jets overhead. And who wouldn't take a Prowler along for good luck Razz ? All pretty much public domain...

ON A LIGHTER NOTE... The sortie was awesome... We did ACM and BFM. We fought a Green Mountain boy at Shaw right now with an AD guy from Cannon on our wing. We had Jimmy hats on so...along with Blk 50s... not too hard of a time.

We only had a 7g jet (7.5 to the end) due to the fact that we had a two bag jet with and a sniper pod... I blew chow on my first ride... but not today... kinda over it (I chink). As I stated last night, we are doing a SEAD ride escorting some SOF dudes along on some choppas along with 2 F-15Cs and 2 E's. We will have hornets acting as Red Air and supporting (also haveing EA6Bs jamming... Pretty COOL!!! I just got home from planning the damn thing (oh yeah... us Intel spooks dont do anything but take lunch breaks...the jet dont fly if it doesnt know what to break and blow up?) and are briefing early in the morning. Lata!!!

Sounds like fun!!! Did you get to refuel behind a KC-135? That would be the only reason I'd want an incentive ride in an F-16, to get close to a tanker again!!! Crazy Pilot

must be nice to sit in an office for 8 hours with a lunch break and gym while we fix the jets your flying in. yeah you got your rides but dont rub it in. check your delta-P's before you go up because i heard they like to pop sometimes

a simple magnet can pop a bit ball. I know I've done it. Delta-P's just need a slight tap sometimes. Just remember the pilot doesn't taxi whenever he/she wants. They can't move unless the Crew Chief says he can.

OOOHHHH YEEEEEAAAAA, A simple electrical disconcetion could cause you to loose your flight too. I have done them all...................................and more.

Please tell the electricians the truth. I have no problem re-connecting a cannon plug during the seventh hour to help our eight hour fix rate. I have a hard enough time figuring out the WD's as it is!!!

I waited till shutdown and after the air crew leaves I reconnect it Twisted Evil .

Thanks...As jacked up as the F-16 T.O.'s are, It'd probably take me a week to find the problem. Actually, I have recently joined "noner" land. I started working in support this week. I enjoy it more than working flightline and I feel like I get more accomplished on a daily basis. Who knows, maybe when I get the equipment account settled, they will give me an incentive ride to get re-fueled from a tanker. (j/k)

All kidding aside, I have only come across one instance of sabotage in my career. I found three wires cut inside a bundle with fresh string tie and tape over the bundle. Never caught the S.O.B. but if I had...
I really don't think anyone here would purposely "sabotage" a jet or purposely "throw" a mission. However, I have met chiefs, pro-supers and maintenance officers that wouldn't put forth 110% into making a sortie happen, for whatever reason. When you are working a "redball" and they stop you to purposely stall you, you wonder what their motive is. I'm not about to make waves over things like this; I just work hard on things that are within my control to maintain aircraft to ensure:

#1 Safety of Flight
#2 Prevent repeats/recurrs
#3 Prevent other maintainers in my shop and other shops to work harder than necessary

Wilz-

You've definitely busted your a$$ and earned these rides...go out there and enjoy them. It's funny how some people run their mouth without knowing a single thing about you...

Salute We had a pilot who parked one of our jets in the bombing range at while I was at Cannon, AFB (The worst base ever). After she returned to flight status she flew MY jet. We were flying a 10 pit 8 turn 5. I was working swings (Real Crew Chiefs work swings) so I was catching my jet after last goes. she landed code 1 so after shutdown and her leaving my cockpit I jumped up to pin the seat and thats when I saw it Doh . THE CREW 94 LINE was disconnected. The thing that got me is that is that she didn't know it was disco'ed even though she was SITTING ON IT. WTF So much for the -1 inspection she did. I told her see is never gonna fly my jet again. Laughing She said "You have no control over it" and I responded with "Of course I do I'm the Crew Chief. I'll break my jet before I let you fly it."

Well if I go on I might incriminate myself. Lets just say she tried me and lost a sortie because of it. Devil

Whats UP DUDES!!! Just a quick recap on the past three days... THEY WERE THE BEST EVER with yesterday being THE BEST OF THE THREE. The SEAD ride on Tuesday went as scheduled...It was pretty fun flying line CAPS petting HARMS. There is a lot more to it that cant be touched on but what I really want to talk about is yesterdays low level SAT RIDE!!!!
First off, I spoke with the dude driving the jet on Tuesday night and he told me what he wanted. I then spent the day and into the night planning the sortie(Oh yeah... us Intel folks dont do sh*t... Everyone else I work with spends 10-12+ hrs a day doing prep work for flying...lol!). I picked out numerous targets and DMPIs and worked backward... I selected a low level route and called and reserved it. I LEARNED ONE THING... If you have 8 hours to plan a sortie... you will use it all... if you reserve 12 hours, you will use it also... YOU CAN EAT UP TONS OF TIME MISSION PLANNING... Its fun though and time flies by. I did all of the planning (Intel and Pilot) including canning the DTCs for the jet. IT WAS A GREAT EXPERIENCE AND AGAIN... I LOVE IT!!! We briefed first thing on Weds morning... and all that we had to do was step and fly... OF COURSE, my bud flying checked everything I did and made a few small changes(lineup cards) but for the most part... I planned the whole deal. Its cool getting into the jet, hitting all of your steerpoints +/- 5 seconds... Pulling up to FL 200 and the tgt being where its suppose to be and dropping on it...using SNIPER. Anyone that says that Litening 2 is BETTER... IS NUTS!!!!!
The flying itself was the best ever... We were between 400 and 1000 AGL (radar alt) doing between 470-510 kts. I learned something else... PLAN A LONGER LOW LEVEL... The one I planned only lasted about 15 minutes! I didnt take into account that I was flying so fast... Ive got to get out of the C-172 mindset Very Happy .
After we we hit most of our tgts, we had some time left in the MOA and some gas to burn... and my said... "You have the aircraft". He put our wingman into trail (I think) and I HAD A BLAST!!! The Blk 50 is a beast and I cannot put into words the power it has... I flew over to some developing cumulus clouds and put the belly of the jet on them and flew all around... rolling inverted... loops in after burner... 90 degree nose down descent while rolling slowly... We had a 7.5 g jet and I just played around... Its unbelieveable that the Air Force PAYS guys to do this... Hopefully me soon! I absolutely love it and cannot wait to get my hands on the Viper again! I will pretty much stop here because Im pretty dull with words and cannot explain the experience... Im still up there right now... I couldnt sleep a bit last night!!! I LOVE THE VIPER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

One more cool thing I got to do on Tues(SEAD Ride) is fly the approach into the field...and then doing the break turn over the field into to downwind. I was then like"Ok, he's gonna take over now..." NO! He didnt! He threw the speed breaks out, gave me an airspeed and threw the gear down... and it was Falcon 4.0 all the way into short final... I WILL ASSURE YOU... ITS A BIT HARDER!!! You are hauling a$$!!! He took the jet at 200 kts on short final and we did some SFOs (Single Engine Flameouts) and then some left closed patterns. The break turn at 340kts...whoops... 300 kts Very Happy was pretty cool. Ive watched dudes do it for about 3 yrs now and stood jealously smiling... finally I got to do it! Well guys... Its been great... I get as many rides as I can get in now up until August when I leave (HOPEFULLY!) for UPT... I CANT WAIT!!!!!!!!!

ps: I actually had to turn another ACM ride down today to head home and catch up on things!!! IM NUTS!!! Shocked

Note: I think I know what OPSEC is. The senario WAS simulated dude. There were no spec ops dudes... no MiGs and no EA6Bs. YGTBFSM... I gave no time, place, tactics, wpns info etc... get a life. Very Happy

As you take off in that jet keep in mind an 18yr old kid who makes 12k a year is the one who put you there.

Or an honest Crew Chief that is supporting a family working 12+ hours so that arrogant people like yourself can get thier training. You can tell that there is some jealousy here about WILZ getting a ride but the truth is that we all had the same chance that he had and we took different jobs, deal with it! Have a great time WILZ just make sure you get sick in the bag, Life Support and the crew chief would really appreciate it.

TWO! Thumb

If you barf on my equipment, then you get to swab out your own mask, and do your own laundry! Laughing

Great accounts of your ride WILZ. I've been there twice myself, and I'm STILL jealous! Wink You forget how much you miss it, until you haven't done it for awhile.

Wait...Am I still talking about flying?... Confused

Beers and MiGs were made to be pounded!

WOW, maybe Cannon ruined you. I agree with you though, real Crew Chiefs work swings, HOWEVER, they don't sabotage their own Aircraft! I guess that this must not have been during the time that you maintained your jet at a 99.6% MC rate that you posted in the...get this...best crew chief thread! Here you are sabotaging jets and publicly admitting it and then calling someone out for not following a checklist. I must not have received the change in my -6WC that tells me to disconnect a cannon plug or pop a delta P and trip bit balls on a launch! I spent three years at Cannon and I will agree with you yet again it is not one of the best bases ever, I could have named a few other places that I would have liked to be, but I didn't let it detract from the fact that I had a job to do and like it or not I did it. It's called "shut up and color". Unfortunately every fighter squadron in the AF has an over arrogant pilot and a crew chief with a chip on his or her shoulder but if you don't want to be professional and do your job than get out so that the rest of us don't get a bad rap!!!!

Ill close the book on a thread that took I turn I didnt expect... I hoped some youngsters would chime in and shoot some questions my way as I have over the past five or six years. Instead some MX dicks who hold the entire pilot community liable for the actions of a few over their careers... its like saying that all cops are fat, lazy and abusive of their powers...

I had a blast... and will continue to get rides up until I leave for pilot training. As of now, it looks as though I am going to Sheppard (ENJJPT). Im stoked!!! WOOOOHOOOOO!!!!!
