I'm looking into making the jump to the Guard from the Active Duty. I'm a current F-16 IP nearing the end of my commitment, so this is probably the best time for me to make the jump. I was was thinking about applying to Buckley and Tulsa guard Units. I grew up in Colorado, and would love to move back there permanently. I was born in OK and did UPT at Vance. I thought OK was a great place to live as well (as long as the house has a storm shelter). The problem is, I don't know anyone at either unit, and am unsure how to go about asking hiring questions. Should I just call up the ops desk and ask, or is there some kind of protocol or standard application process? Anyone from those units or any other guard unit that could point me in the right direction?
Thanks,

I wish I had the knowledge to help you...
But I've noticed this sitting here for a bit; so I hope someone does.
Anyone?

| Couldn't help either. But knowing Psycho is a viper pilot I dont think he'll have much of a problem getting a slot. Pyshco, there are some guard guys around here on the fourms, Im sure they'll get around to helping you out. |

I think your right viperman; I talked to an A-10 pilot out of Battlecreek once who said that he was AD first and had no problems picking up a gaurd slot; since gaurd guys all go to the same Red Flags and training exercises AD guys goto; chances are you were at least heard of by reputation. As long as you weren't a foxtrot head was his advice to me. He said that while AD be cooly with everyone cause you never know, the guy that rubs you wrong at Red Flag might be the guys your asking for a gaurd slot from 6 years down the road.

You need to call them up....find out when their next drill weekend is and XC a jet in there. They will know you are serious if you take the time and trouble to do that. After that, it's all about whether they like you or not and whether they have a slot (STS) or not. Good luck! |
