Hi.
I was wondering if it's possible to inflight refuel the external tanks?

During aerial refueling the fuel flows through the same refuel/transfer line as during ground refueling. The pilot opens the air refuel door, the pressure in the internal tanks is redused to 1-3 psid and the pressure in the external tanks goes to 0 psid. Fuel then flows to the tanks as normal refueling.

There is a new tank with a IFR receptacle located on it. This tank allows refueling from drogue style hoses. I do not know too much about the new tanks, but have seen pictures of them. My guess is they are still in testing.

Why?! It's kind of a cool idea, and I guess it's good if you're planning on putting those tanks on a jet that doesn't already have air refueling capability. Otherwise, it sounds like they're making something fairly simple a lot more complicated.

True, we have had this thread about them.

The drogue type boom, which was attached to a 370 was used on the F-16 only to test the air refueling capabilities of the KC-130J, why they didn't us a Hornet or Bombcat is beyond me, cost probably. The Viper could never be refueled through external tanks.

Believe the product is from Sargeant Fletcher and provides AR compatibility with drogue-type refuellers.

True in it's original configuration, but really the only things making it impossible are the refuel spools. If they could be modified to allow reverse flow during refuel, then everything else would work normally.

The tank with the boom was only used for testing the KC-130J aerial refuel capabilities in Marietta, doubt any fuel was passed but they may have pumped a few gallons into the tank itself.

I don't doubt it, I'm just saying that drouge refueling through a modified 370 could be made to work. It wouldn't be a bad idea; having both capabilities would make the viper much more versatile.
