Can Airbus's dump fuel or are they flying low to burn it off faster?.
A330/340 can, the rest can't. |

| There are comments I could make about the A320/1, but I'm just glad the pilot got the thing down and stopped. |

| That is a really fine job of piloting the aircraft. I thought the landing gear could only take force in one direction. Then again, the main gear has to be really strong because the thing gets towed around by it. I must commend the pilot. Airbus vs. Boeing is really just a matter of opinion, they are very similar with similar design reqs and all that. I know I'll get bad mouthed because of it. This little incident makes it that much harder for me to convince my girlfriends mother that it is actually safe to fly. I'm glad everyone is safe from that flight though. |

Do you think the passengers are watching the news on DirecTV?
Oh yeah they were! It was quite surreal, to watch the jet you're in on TV. They cut the feed before they landed though. They showed video taken from inside the plane during the flight, including the touchdown. Course everyone cheered when they touched down, but I thought to myself....don't cheer yet, you haven't stopped! But mad props to the crew! They won't have to buy a drink at the bar for a long time. |

Great work by the crew.
I will add my parrot to the other comments.
A320 family can't dump fuel. The widebody A330 and A340 family can.
=============
Apparently an A320 had some trouble last night. Darned if I can remember all the details though.

Congrats to the crew for getting the plane down safely. Messier-Dowty make the gear.....They also make gear for the FA/18 E/F Boeing 787, V-22, AV8`,etc etc...
I know its speculation but could it have been electrical, hydraulic? This has happened before on other `320s. Sometimes the nose gear hasn`t deployed at all....
For the pilots! |

Damn that camera needed to pan down a half degree.
But yes, difficult to watch both things on the screen. |

Hats off to that pilot. Sierra Hotel landing! The bloke even kept it on the centerline. Honestly, this seems like an isolated maintenance issue. Airbus makes a d@mn good plane. I've flown on both Airbus and Boeing planes, and I'd trust either product. It's not the plane, it's the airline that is maintaining them that really matters.
My vote is to fly anything operated by Quantas!
