Hello everyone. Its been a while. They are keeping us quite busy here at the ROK. I got a few on ANG. At the end of my enlistment, I thought about going guard. From the people that are actually in it, how is it? Do you get to pick your assignment? Also, what kind of pay is involved and benefits as compared to me staying on AD? Hours? Is it the whole "one weekend a month, 2 weeks a year?" Fulltime? I looked online, but I was going in circles within 5 minutes. Thanks for info

Cheers

The one thing I can tell you is to go to WWW.fulltimeguard.com or http://www.neguard.com/jobs/Docs/statepoc.htm and look for your AFSC and see if there are any opening at the location you want. If the state you are looking for does not have a direct link on one try the other one.. Also I e-mailed you some of the benefit differences.. Hope this helped..

One weekend a month.......yes, two weeks a year............not hardly. Multiple tdy's and AEF taskings are abundant. At least in my unit. Been fulltime civil service for 21 years and have enjoyed most of it. I always recommend to new recruits to spend four years active duty and then join the Guard. You'll enjoy the difference. But on another matter...........active and guard units will join together at many units. Will be interesting to see how it pans out. As cdhstang stated, check out the web sites.
Have a great day!
