Hey, just found this site and forum. I'm a 18 year old from the Netherlands, and I'm in Aircraft maintenace school and from September 5 I will start my practical year for my school at the Dutch Airforce on airbase Twenthe. I will join 912th squadron at the training hangar.
I will train on a F-16A and I will get 50 days each for Engine, Avionics, sheetwork and mechanical/hydraulic systems.
When the practical year is done and I pass it I'm thinking of joining the airforce (if I like the practical, and like the atmosphere in the airforce).
For this practical year I will get a room on base together with a classmate. Do you guys have any tips what not to do on a military base? :p |

Sorry it took me so long to respond to this post, Kaasjager. I'm not familiar with foreign Air Forces. Do you want to fly? You're certainly young enough! Perhaps a college education is not necessary in the Netherlands as it is in the states. Would recommend an engineering degree by all means. Also, get up in the air and do some acrobatics to get used to unusual attitudes; a big plus your first up in training!
As an enlisted, unless it's necessary, if you want to, enlist, go to school and learn your airplane. It's going to get tough! But if it were easy, anyone can do it. So, with this engineering degree and some flight experience both before and after commissioning, give it your best shot! |

can't become a pilot, with my education: Aircraft maintenance school, i will become groundcrew, there are 3 things i think will be a nice job for me: F-16 Avionics specialist , F-16 crewchief or something completely different: Chinook or Cougar loadmaster, with my education i will start out as a Sergeant 2nd class. |

| That's great! Was just wondering. You just might change your mind some day you know. It sounds like you're very motivated, something might happen to the psych after you arrive on Active Duty. Best of luck. |

I really do need to, and keep my big mouth and thoughts about this shut and to myself, respectively. Boy, you're right, I totally agree, I am like that. I keep forgetting this website is for everyone. |
