Russia, Boeing to partner for next aircraft
MOSCOW. Aug 7 (Interfax) - Boeing has included the Russian aviation industry as a partner in the creation of the Boeing 787 Dreamliner, the U.S. company's regional president for Russia and the Commonwealth of Independent States Sergei Kravchenko saw in Moscow.
Boeing's construction center in Moscow, which employs around six thousand Russian engineers, is now working on designing the plane's nose section and bridge, Kravchenko said. Russian engineers at the center are also designing a cargo aircraft for transporting sections of the new plane's fuselage.
Joint design work is underway on new technologies and testing on other construction elements is being done, Kravchenko reported. A contract worth over $43 million has been clinched with the Central Aerodynamics Institute for setting up a center where practical and dynamics testing of Boeing 787 fuselage panels is to be done.
Boeing is also working with the Russian Academy of Sciences under the 787 program, along with the All-Russia Institute of Aviation Materials and other Russian organizations.
