Hi all, Crew Chief at TJ from 84-87, SW from 1987 - 2002 with some in between trips to Osan. Now in crew chief purgatory at SJ. Got caught up in the merger and ended up on F-15E's. What a P.O.S. it is - if you get caught up like me, do everything in your power to get out of it. I'd rather be change an ADG every day than be here!

My Jets: TJ, 614 AMU, Blk 15 81-0821
SW, 17 AMU, Blk 25 84-1217
Blk 42 90-0754
77 AMU Blk 50 91-0346

About a year and half ago, the decision was made to merge all 7 lvl fighter CC's TSgt and above. The goal eventually is to merge as far down as SSgt.

This was done for various reasons: share the remote assignment burden, open up more assignment choices etc... bottom line force shaping.

Rivit workforce is all but dead - basically the only thing remaining technically is there are no flightline hyd troops. We again have engine troops, but sems like cc's still do 98% of the work.

It kind of stinks in a way - I spent 21 years on F-16, out of Korea I got sent here to Seymour because 19 MSgt's here dropped their retirement orders versus going to Korea. I come here and am low man on the totem pole because the F-15 is nothing but a F-4 in disquise - rational decision making is all but dead and its very hard "for me at least" to get a grasp on how to run production when I'm so dependent on lower ranking people to help me with decisions. ie.... service a tailhook - my etic would be 15 minutes (F-16). This hog can take as long 6 hours dependent upon which portion (air, hyd or switch rig) requires mx. Needless to say, I was shoved into a TAMS flight chief slot pretty quick while other F-15 MSgt's PCS in and go straight to production.
