OK, so I was just watching one of my fave 80's movie: Iron Eagle. Ah yes, that old cheesy, yet still loveable movie....

Anyway, as well all know the aircraft used in the movie were Israeli Netz's. But I was wondering if anyone knew exactly which ones were used. There were mostly two B's that you saw, but there were a few A's in there two. And they were all obvisouly Block 10 aicraft, with the smaller stabs. I was also wondering if the main base you see is Ramat-David, like I surmise that it is. I know we have some Israeli members on here that could maybe shed light on this, yesnot?
TIA!

I think I've seen that movie more than 15 times Wink. Also the "MiG's" are IAI Kfirs.
About your question, in two weeks I'm going back to my home in Israel for 3 weeks. I will watch the movie again and tell you it looks like Ramat-David for me.

Well yeah I knew the 'MiGs' were Kfris...come on now!
I watched to see if I could see any aircraft numbers, but they were all painted over. and the American roundels added. But thanks DS!

I have a video clip (avi format) with parts of some of the dogfightes. I will try to upload a screenshot that shows someone "forgot" to remove one of the 'Stars-of-David' from one of the F-16's Smile. I rewatched that clip and the main base is also showing up, and it's seems like Ramat-David. The aircrafts were also given American numbers (some got ED and the others got BA).

EDIT: I'm getting an error massage when I'm trying to upload the pic.

I was in Salt Lake City, Utah (next to Hill AFB) when that movie came out. When I went to see the movie the theater must have been full of F-16 folks from Hill. I have never heard so many people laughing, sneering, guffawing, groaning and saying "Bullsh*t" in a movie theater. I know Iron Eagle had F-16s in it (and this is not a slam at IADF) but that has to be one of the worst airplane movies I have ever seen. Crying or Very sad

I remember when I was about 9 or 10 I saw that movie and I thought it was the greatest thing since Top Gun Wink But after I saw the Iron Eagle series again I realized how bad it really was. There has to be a thousand mistakes in one of those movies alone! Embarassed

Hey I said it was uber cheesy! But it's still a classic, in a goofy kind of way. I mean even Top Gun was pretty cheesy.

Hot Shots was cheesy - Iron Eagle was so full of mistakes and so unbelievable it was downright insulting. IMO Hollywood at its worst... (Michael Jackson not included... Rolling Eyes )

habu2, I guess I have to agree with you. But, ironically, I still enjoying watching the the show (Iron Eagle), times and again Razz . How about Iron Eagle II?

And if you guys care to list down all the Viper movies? I remember one particular. A Viper was crashed and the pilot was killed. The verdict was pilot's fault. But the wife went all the way to clear her husband's name. As much as you guess, design fault. Can't seem to recall the title... Rolling Eyes

h2, almost by definition movie about flying are cheesy. I mean come on, really... what modern movie about aviation can you say that you're really proud of?

The older movies like Battle Of Britain, and Tora!Tora!Tora! are actually movies I can say that kick ****!

But there's a myriad of vapid B movies out there made since the 70's that are just awful too. Stuff that you never hear about, or stuff that goes straight to video.

At least Hot Shots made no attempt at sincerity, it was slapstick through and through.
Top Gun, Iron Eagle, and the like... well it's Hollywood, what can you say? And don't even get me started on Pearl Harbor... I'd much rather watch DWings anyday Very Happy

Thanks Habu!!

here is the exact description. Based on a true story, one woman takes on the U.S. military and General Dynamics; maker of the F-16, thought to be the very best tactical fighter in the world. Air Force Captain Theodore T. Harduvel (Vincent Spano) was one of the best F-16 pilots the U.S. had to offer. After much digging, Janet Harduvel discovers a joint military and General Dynamic cover-up. She proves to be unwavering in her search for the truth to clear his name.

Sorry pal, kinda deviate from the topic.... Razz

Yes, that movie was based upon a true story. Iv'e never seen the movie but I recall some of the details. Supposedly there was a wiring bundle that chafed against a bulkhead(?) until the insulation wore through, causing the flight controls to short out. The pilot's widow pressed the case that it was a design flaw that caused his death. I don't recall the outcome of the real-world case.
