I think that if you do splash a UAV it should count... I mean if you do shoot down another fighter and the pilot gets out and lives it still counts too, right? So a "kill" isn't really defined by loss of life anyhow.

Destroy enough of the bad guys airplanes and you get air superiority. Doesn't matter how you get them.

I'm not sure of any UAVs our adversaries currently operate, but downing any enemy aircraft is supposed to count as a kill. Even if you shoot down a cargo plane, you get a kill star on your jet.
In another thread about Desert Storm, we were recently discussing the Strike Eagle's kill of an Iraqi chopper with a GBU-12 laser guided bomb. The chopper lifted off of the ground so it did count as an aerial kill.

Now the question is: how long before we got UAV vs. UAV dogfights?

YGBSM!
Blowing up some stupid robot shows how good you are?
Until they have rearward firing Slammers or 'winders, the suckers shouldn't be too hard to nail. OTOH, sooner or later.............
I can't help but recall Luke going manual when R2-D2 went tango uniform.
Guess those days are gone forever, we should just let them go (old Don Henley phrase).

"A little voice inside my head said don't look back..."
Isn't flying a UAV similar to having Sierra with a robot? That’s just wrong!
Yup, shooting down a UAV is about as tough as fishing with dynamite.

UCAV will be a different story though.....But remember that WWI pilots were given credits for balloon kills and WWII pilots were credited with V1 kills. Sailors who manned masted warships thought that steam powered warships were stupid. But that didn't halt progress and a new way of thinking.

out,
Gone are the days when the pilot waves at you when he taxis by. Although sometimes they wiggle the camera. |
