| OK, I now saw something also bizare here in Egypt, I was looking up at the sky when I saw 5 jets cruising very close to each other, the bizarre thing is that they all crossed paths!, the contrails were fascinating, almost 3 or 4 of the 5 jets coming from the "left, right and up and down" and formed by their contrails a star: * |

to kind of support LinkF-16SimDude theory of the crowded airways and they could just be far away verticly. i was on a ocntinental jet flying to cancun. somewhere over the gulf i noticed a 737 directly above us pretty close to the 2,000 feet required. if i saw this from the ground i would of thought the planes were about to collide.
but i still wouldnt know much about any other options..just a scenerio i witnessed |

FYI... the vertical separation from FL 290-FL 410 has been reduced to 1000'. Been that way for years in Europe, but just happened here in the states w/in the past few months. There are specific equipment requirements to fly in the 290-410 block, and all ailiners as far as I know have the equip. Not so for the F-16, and formations require the 2000' even if we were compliant.
We can still fly there if ATC allows based on traffic and how busy they are.
Gus
P.S.: My two cents on the photo...they are separated by at least 2000' vertically. I see this all the time here in MT with the Europe flights heading to LAX. Now it's a 1000'. |
