UPT base assignments came down to AFROTC this week and I am going to Moody. No class dates were passed down yet but we were told to expect one to three months of casual status before UPT starts. I am so excited I wish it was starting tomorrow!

Congrats!
Some tips about Moody: Great place to go to UPT. See if you can be casual at one of the IFF squadrons. You might work some slightly longer hours, but you will be working with Fighter Pilots, and you have the chance to sandbag (fly in the backseat of an AT-38C) your a$$ off... This will help you learn what it will take to go the fighter path.

Thanks for the advice Cylon, I certainly wouldn't mind long hours if it meant spending a few in a T-38! As far as I've been told our casual assignments are completely random so I'll have to keep my fingers crossed, we still don't have orders or UPT class dates. Heading up to Moody this weekend to check out the local scene and watch the air show. Thanks again for the kind words everyone.

Spit21, the only "say" you get is the option to rank the upt bases in order from highest preference to lowest. There are 5 Air Force bases to choose from unless you get ENJJPT in which case you are going to Sheppard no matter what. My list went Moody, Columbus, Laughlin, Vance, Pensacola, and I wound up getting my first choice. But I also know some people who got their third or fourth choice. The best you can do is put down what you would like and keep your fingers crossed.

BattleAx,
Cylon gave you good words re: working with the A/T squadrons. The T-6 squadron is essentially all heavy pilots and, while they are great guys, they don't know the reality of the fighter life style. (The only fighter guys there are the commander, DO, and 1-2 IPs.) Walk across the street and hang out with the fighter guys in their "lounge" on Fridays or after work and they will tell the truth about what we do. If you really want to be the best at what you do, are motivated, and want to break things and make them go away then you need to be a fighter dude. But know that there is a whole lot of learning on the way there.
Cheers & Check Six |

Congrats on Moody. You'll enjoy Valdosta (six months at a time is plenty).
To our friend who referenced the "AT-38C": What exactly IS an AT-38C? I noticed that you correctly used the term, "sandbag"...yet somehow managed to goof on the airframe classification? No big deal, just something that caught the ole Mk-1 eyeball.
Battleaxe: don't make the same mistake. The 49th operated the AT-38B in another life (believe the finished the conversion before I left Moody), and now operates the T-38C. Yes, that means that (should you track for fighter/bomber and return to Moody for IFF) you will no longer be dropping BDU-33s out on Grand Bay. It's all Star Wars now.
Hooters is average. O'Corleys is pretty decent. The cops in Remerton have a problem with military dudes...particularly Officers...so keep an eye on yourself and your pals -- avoid Remerton altogether if that is still the advice of those in the know.
As for casual status, pray for Nellis. I hear those bubbas are flyin' the casuals like it's their job.
Any questions about Moody, pipe up and I'll answer your questions as best I can.
Take 'er easy,
