Ouch! Well at least they let Nellis contribute Predator UAVs to the rotation...no pilots in those to worry about! (just kidding Nellis guys)

Hey did any of you guys notice?

Exactly 1 week after 25th March would be....1st April...

Sure hope the only thing that happens on 1st April at 083(6?) would be an April Fool's Day joke Confused

Hey guys, I just heard on the news last night that all aircraft at Nellis are grounded as of now. I don't know how long that will last, but it's sure a big step to take!

Parrothead, does that grounding include the Thunderbirds? I know they're actually at Indian Springs, but I'd like to know if you have any information pertaining to that. Thanks!

I don't think it does, but I'm not 100% certain. Someone at Nellis said that they expect to be back flying by Monday and the T-Birds are out somewhere else doing airshows. They also said that the grounding wouldn't affect any aircraft currently participating in Red Flag Very Happy . Hope that helps TC! Have fun Smile !

Aircraft did fly the same night at Nellis after the 15 went down. "Nothing can stop the U.S.A.F". -The AF song.

Are you really sure Nellis's airmen are not on the AEF rotation? Month @@@@ sounds like something I should remember for some reason....

All in fun... I think I have 18 P&W stickers for the 18th SQ engine download door... Just kidding... The old days... So was that you guys who asked for that GE engine specific part from a P&W Shop. But seriously, thanks for coming out to the RED FLAG. Hopefully the aggressors taught your pilots something out here. That will make my day. It's been rough keeping 'em flying.

PRATT 220 OUT!!

Hi Parrothead!

From my experience at Nellis short-term grounding (or no flys) were used to emphasize to everyone on base that crashing is serious business and to allow time for safety meetings to refocus everyone on safety and operational procedures.

Thanks for the info, Earl Very Happy !

I'm from San Diego, so I'm a bit more familiar with Navy proceedures. From the news coverage there, I'd hear about a "Stand Down" for a definite period of time such as two days. The way the news portrayed it here, the Air Force had grounded all Nellis birds indefinitely.

The article might imply indefinite, but groundings (stand downs) never last long.

Actually, Nellis' crash record is very good. I have been here since 1995 and have only witness a handful of actual Nellis aircraft go down. I have seen many others go down while TDY here, but not many Nellis aircraft. Of the ones that are Nellis, I can't think of a single maintenance related mishap to date yet. (Not counting the recent ones because the official findings are not released yet.)

Absolutely TooTall! Accidents are well within reason. Modern day fighter aircraft and operations are safer than ever.
