Quick translation of the article posted by Lieven:
Quote:
AVIANO - The body of the missing F-16's fighter pilot was found in the Adriatic Sea. The aircraft took of from Aviano AFB and went down in the sea on monday evening.
During the morning, after the parachute was found, also the helmet was retrieved in good conditions, which made a successful recovery of the missing airman appear more likely.
The investigation tasked with finding out the cause of the accident has been started.
Captain Lucas Gruenther, 32 years old, is survived by his sister and his brother, Alexander, also a captain of the USAF and stationed at NATO in Bruxelles.
The officer would have become father in 10 days to his daughter who he already decided, along with his wife, would be named Serene.
RIP, Captain Gruenther. |

2 young 2 die! Sad! Condolences to the family and his mates. Throttle Fwd, aft stick!
Kinda mysterious... (Alaska's Raptor mishap came to my mind) Whatever went wrong I hope they'll determine it fast.
What are the procedure now? Are the fleet worldwide got to be grounded?
Ps. Is the bird's s/n known? |

I'm hearing that it may have been the 510th Squadron bird, 88-0510. |

Very sad indeed. But grounding the world-wide F-16 fleet is not done unless there is a known problem that presents an unacceptable risk for continued flight operations. |
