After 9/11 when the coalition was built, most of the countries sent representation to CENTCOM headquarters at McDill AFB. The result was a whole bunch of nomadic looking tents in thre parking lot with a temporary Mosque built for the Muslim guests. Place soon became known as Tampastan.

That is a weird base, I see Germans and Aussies and Brits running around all the time. And trying to give underage chicks a beer.

Foreign military officers are always good for laughs.

When I was holed up at Diyarbakir AB, Turkey ("D-Town"; "Dicky Baker") for 18 glorious months in the mid 90's, there was an little podunk AFS northwest of town called Pirinclik. Only the locals and folks from Incirlik prolly knew about it. It's nick was "Bedrock", cause drivin' thru the village was like seein' the Flintstones come to life. Smile
