What I still don't understand, to this day, is why people believe the F-22 is useless because it has no role in OEF and OIF.
The jet is a deterrent, simple as that. It prevents wars far better than it fights them and having that kind of capability assures that any future enemies will be a step behind us capability wise. It was a quantum leap above anything else flying in 1997 and will continue to be for atleast another decade.
By focusing on weapons such as UAVs, designed only to fight small scale low intensity wars, we rob ourselves of a decisive technological advantage against a future adversary that we may not even see coming.
