Yes, is a very sad news.

But I know that the pilot tried everything to recouver the plane and only ejected when the aircraft was direct into the woods

Congratolations to the pilot.

"Pilot identity not revealed"?

Hes LT-colonel João "Skipper" Pereira and has 2000 hours in the viper.

Cheers.

Hi everyone

According to the portuguese weekly newspaper Sol, the problems with F-16BM "15140" started immediately after take-off, when the pilot, Lieutenant Colonel João "Skipper" Pereira (Esq. 301 "Jaguares" CO), reported serious difficulties with the flight controls due to strong turbulence. The ejection took place at a mere 350 m AGL, but fortunately he pulled through. At the moment this is all we know about this crash. Wink

Whitnesses seem to indicate the controll surfaces were being actuated agaisnt the pilots imputs. I would bet a FBW or a Gyro problem.

Gentlemen, preliminary reports from Lockheed Martin are out! It seems a Software glitch in the FBW system was the culprit!

Any more news on the reason for this accident? I find that hard to believe that a software glitch in the FBW (FLC) system was present. Maybe the analog Flight Control Computer (FLCC) was at fault, but to my knowledge it contains 0 lines of source code. Block 40 were the first to receive the digital FLCC, but the Portuguese jet was block 15. Mid-Life Update introduces Modular Mission Computer, maybe that was involved?

I don't think the PoAF has released any further info. But, you're right, it wasn't a "software glitch". And it wasn't the MMC.
