Seems readily accessible and unprivileged to me.
Neurotech commented on this earlier and I'll add my $.02. Each USAF Class A mishap has two separate investigation boards - one is the SIB (Safety Investigation Board) and the other is the AIB (Accident Investigation Board). The SIB investigates to make recommendations to prevent recurrence. The SIB report contains privileged information that is not releasable (until after 25 years). The SIB report also contains factual information and that portion of the SIB report is provided to the AIB. The AIB conducts a legal investigation. The AIB report is publicly releasable and it does identify involved personnel. |

I am aware of this. But the link and report provided are from a .gov site that does not represent an OPSEC violation for the content of this discussion. |

| Thanks guys. Very informative. The report deffinately gives more insight and education regarding the occurrence. That General Dolan made it out okay is all I care about. |

A report quoted in another aviation forum (no link or source provided) indicated all pertinent items to the investigation were recovered from 16,500 feet of water. The investigation board directed recovery while embarked on the recovery ship.
I saw a report somewhere that mentioned fuel starvation as a possible cause. |

I found this the other day. But I think the headline is wrong and it refers to a Hawaii ANG F-15 crash as opposed to a F-16.

If you're saying the recovery was actually of an F15, I disagree. The quote I referenced (and since deleted unfortunately) specifically stated it was the F-16, the date it went down, and referenced the engine was recovered, not engines.
I also believe the F-16 was far more likely to be recovered considering the crashes proximity to China and Russia to prevent efforts by them to recover the aircraft. |

| Thanks for that. The Phoenix article is not specific to the location, just mentions the deep dive kit was loaded in Hawaii, but the accompanying map on the page points to place off the coast of Hawaii which made me think of the F-15 that broke up. |

Anybody know the tail # for the crashed jet?
Anyone has the serial yet?
An investigation pointed out that the jet crashed because a valve stopped fuel from reaching the engine. |

Thank you Gamera! I update the article with that information.
Mission markings on USAF F-16C block 50 #92-3886 from the 13th FS (marked up as 14th FS) during their deployment for OIF at PSAB on May 19th, 2003. |

Another example of poor press reporting. Restricting fuel to the engine is not an engine anomaly.
Lieven - How is it that you declared the fuel shutoff valve "faulty" when the AIB could not determine the reason for its closure? |
