| I am looking for the best advice on how to cross over to the blue for F-16s. I am 25 years old and in Afghanistan flying Apaches. My biggest hurdle is to figure out the fastest way to get a degree. Does the Air Force care what kind of degree I'll need to be competitive? I would like to get it fast so I can still be young when I apply. Any help is welcome. Thanks. |

PLZ look for Cylon and STBYGAIN. They are active duty Viper jocks and could help.
You already have my addy, but keep adding to the list.
Besides, I never did trust a plane that had the wings move versus being welded in one position, heh heh. |

Magicatc, you may hve had this answered, but if not, here goes...
Anything technical will probably get you on a fast-track to be an officer, but for becoming a pilot, in my understanding, you just need an accredited bachelor's (sic) degree. Thats what I've been told by former AF pilots, my Air Force Academy instructors, and currently my ROTC instructors.
If I remember correctly and in all honesty, there was a BUFF (B-52) pilot who majored in animal husbandry in college, yet was still selected for pilot training. Of course, this was quite a while ago (15-25 yrs) when he was selected and he still had to have outstanding physical qualities, and the whole 9 yards that accompany being an Air Force Pilot, but he did have an accredited 4-year degree.
Maybe it was because he was flying a big lumbering beast |

Dude,
Your degree doesn't matter. I've even seen dudes with online degrees get pilot slots. Consider the Guard and Reserve as well. The main thing is just to get it done as soon as possible so you can start applying.
The Guard takes guys from many different backgrounds, but in your case, you'ld probably have to apply as a UPT candidate, cause I think you'd have to go through a fixed wing UPT course. You would have a huge leg up against the average joe with 100 hours of private flying time.
If you have specific questions about the Guard, let me know. Cylon and STBYGAIN can probably give you more information about Active Duty.
