Quick question - does anyone have a rough figure for how much the lift engine and transmission weighs? I'm probably missing this having been covered previously but I can't seem to find a reference for the figure.

Here you go Stobiewan. Obviously it pre-dates the cancellation of the F136 but other than that I have no idea how old or how accurate it is...

That 3898-pound total weight difference includes not just the fan and shaft & transmission but also the extra ducts inside the wings, whatever mechanisms opens & close those, the joints that move the main nozzle, and any differences resulting from the use of corrosion-resistant materials.

Quite right, didn't realize there'd be a test later. I actually think the 6,354lbs number might be a little suspect anyway. Spaz may have some more accurate numbers tucked away somewhere.

That also includes the engine. All in all, the lift fan and other STOVL kit adds somewhere in the 2,500-4,000lbs to the aircraft.

F-35A 29,300 lbs
F-35B 32,300 lbs
F-35C 34,800 lbs

The A & B models differential with similar size/wing area (compared to the rather different C model) is 3,000 lbs. There are many variable differences otherwise in A & B due different internal structure with B 'lightened'. I guess the STOVL engine LiftFan bits and pieces weight(s) must be classified.
