Is there an illustrated guide to accomplish such a noble task?
When asked this question people will often reply with things along the lines of "4.0 Ivy League Engineering GPA," or "You have to be Kelly Johnson incarnate," or the very popular "sell your soul."

The truth is, there is no set way to either getting hired or staying hired. I know people who worked at GD/LM who lied about their credentials and were promoted to manager positions, and I know some, whose talent was very valuable, that got laid off while others who created more work than they produced kept working.
Timing and luck are a huge factor. If the company isn't looking for help, the chances are slim, however I have seen groups of people being laid off while the employment office was filled with new hires waiting for their job assignments.
Don't worry about selling your soul to get the job, that comes after you get hired! (just kidding ... maybe).
