Jane Wells, Simulated Fighter Pilot CNBC Video

http://video.msnbc.msn.com/cnbc/47022008/#47022008

"CNBC's Jane Wells "flies" in an F-35 cockpit simulator at Northrop Grumman. With the help of former fighter pilot Joe Parish, who works for Lockheed Martin, she bombs an enemy target and "lands" the Joint Strike Fighter without blowing herself up."

I don't have sound but video looks good for several reasons. Very Happy

Landing was harder than bombing Smile

Anyway; does it identify enemy radar's type and relative position and calculate the F-35's radar image accordingly? Otherwise that info may mislead the pilot. Am I correct?

It wouldn't take much processing power for it to work out based on tables of data. It would have to have a means of showing where the bad angles are.

Couldn't watch the vid on my iphone...thanks Smile Holy crap! It does adjust to the enemy radar. That...is...insane! Does it do the same for IR based on atmospheric conditions?

EOTS has full lower hemisphere coverage too eh?

For ease of use, I put it up on YouTube:

http://youtu.be/EmDYCjRSMqI

360 EOTS = yes

Dynamic threat detection and mission re-routing = yes

I HATED explaining how to fly and land the Viper sim to some civilian or tour bunch. Just way too much info for the novice to grasp in such a short time. After about 5 minutes their eyes would eventually glaze over and I'm sure I started to sound like Charlie Brown's teacher. So by the time I finally did get around to saying "Let's go fly", they'd go "Uhhhh...ummm....OK.." Laughing

Even though it's a 5 gen aircraft, some timeless, classic key fighter driver oriented phraseology/jargon from the video does indeed stand out here...

"I don't want to go down."

"Am I the worst you've ever seen."

"Just wiggle your toes."

It's so universal...

and she has the requisite big watch. Very Happy

I surprised she landed it.
Do you think they turned down the sensitivity on pancaking the landing gear? She looked like she hit awfully hard.

In the ‘Cockpit’ of the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter 12 Apr 2012 By: Jane Wells
CNBC Correspondent

http://www.cnbc.com/id/47021242?__sourc ... mp;par=RSS

"...As you'll see in the video, Parish talks me through bombing an enemy target and landing the jet safely so efficiently that I suggested even an idiot could fly the aircraft.

"Pilots really can't be idiots," he replied with a grimace.

Well, judge for yourself!"

At least in TopGun2 we won't have to suffer through "I can't get tone, I can't get tone!!!" anymore Smile

They could have a scene where Cougar II throws in his wings because he got radar spiked for 0.32 seconds from 80 miles away.

Maverick could head back to base mid sortie to have a wee while Jester II flies around the exercise area saying to himself "damn this kid's good".

They could have an awkward, homo-erotic volley ball scene ! ... oh wait ><
