Eglin F-35 makes second flight a successful one
Bob Cox | SkyTalk blog
"Lockheed Martin reports that the F-35 training base at Eglin AFB had a more successful second flight Tuesday.
U.S. Marine Corps Maj. Joseph Bachmann, according to a press release, successfully piloted the second F-35 local orientation flight, a 93 minute hop. Aircraft AF-13, an F-35A conventional takeoff and landing variant, launched at 2:30 p.m. CDT."
The leaky F-35A was AF-12. Perhaps they should have been less superstitious...

On what basis does 'maus92' claim: "...Perhaps they should have been less superstitious..."
I would claim that aircrew [or whomever 'they' are] are NOT superstitious. And claims are one thing - evidence another in the wacky-world of F-35 bashers.
O M G - it's a joke about why they picked -12 as the first jet to fly vs. -13... Seriously, you need to chill a bit. |

A simple addition of a smiley face indicates a 'joke'. Or is that too much trouble?
I actually included one in the original post, but deleted it when editing because I thought the joke was obvious. I guess not. |

"The first orientation flight last week was cut short immediately by a fuel leak warning."
Warning...yeah, from his wingman. Cox can't even get that right. |

Superstition is not new in US business. Many US airliners don't have a seat row 13 and Microsoft skipped Office 13, i.e. Office 2007 is version 12 and when they released Office 2010 it became version 14.
What is perhaps the most significant for this flight is that an Air Force jet was piloted on its first post-delivery flight by a Marine Corp aviator |

And yet there is an AF-13? Why? Superstition never makes sense.
Agree. I spent a few years offshore in the oil and gas exploration industry on ships. Talk about a superstitious crowd at sea |

| Tuesday was March 13 as well. Don't know if it started in superstition or what but the first car of a new model is painted white in the auto industry and the last car off the line when a model is discontinued is black. Any traditions or superstitions in the aircraft industry? Thought most firms like to have a first flight of their new aircraft on December 17? |
