@SpudmanWP:
BTW I want to acknowledge that you have damaged me temporarily. For the next week or so when events at the office turn sour, as they often do, I will be reflexively screaming aloud "I can't get tone, I can't get tone!" and the IT support folks will end up running over to check my VOIP. Thanks dude, thanks a lot ;>) |

My Movie Memory is failing me lately (I was thinking of Die Hard when I typed Lethal Weapon).
Die Hard "hardly" counts due to it being used in a way that it cannot (pardon the pun)
Also had two under wing cannons in Die Hard...too much cannon ammo, hovered for too long, pilot had to manually eject on lift fan failure.... bla bla |

Top Gun 2 To Feature F-35 (DEFENSE DAILY 02 MAR 12) ... Mike McCarthy
http://www.hrana.org/news.asp#TopGun2
"...Burbage said the company has been contacted by Hollywood to arrange for possible shootings and that filming of the advanced fighter may begin sometime in the near future.
There has been talk of making Top Gun 2 for years but the project now appears to be gaining momentum. Paramount Pictures, which produced the first film, did not respond to inquiries from Defense Daily about the F-35s role. Burbage said he learned that Tom Cruise had been originally offered a cameo to appear as a janitor, but was granted the leading role at his insistence. There was no word on whether Cruise wanted "Iceman" to play the janitor...."

Like the Gulf of Sidra engagement where the F-14 crew couldn't get a tone - until they killed them.
:::
AIM-9Xs don't produce a tone? |

The primary F-35 missile is the AMRRAM which will be fired in LOAL mode, hence no waiting for tone.
The Aim-9X Blk2 (currently planned for Blk4) is also a LOAL missile. |

Yes, it beat the drones after stalling the compressors at high altitude IIRC.
F-35 is such an improvement over that hunk of junk jalopy known as the F-14 w/ Sparrow missiles. At least now you have multi-shot ability with a missile that weighs less than 1000 lbs coupled with more clearance for BVR engagements thanks to more and better detection and ID equipment. I've read other news posts from people stating that the movie will be about the F-35 being on the ground most of the time with Tom Cruise staring at it in disgust due to it "not working." Gee, why don't those morons try doing some research into exactly what goes into making something that can do the jobs of most of our fighter fleet BETTER than said fighter fleet and then get back and try to say that it is an easy task to make something like that and have it work right immediately.
Here's an example:http://gizmodo.com/5889737/top-gun-2-is-real-and-stars-a-plane-that-doesnt-fly
Sparrow weighs ~500lbs, check your facts buddy |
