Well I was bored last night on the computer, so I loaded one of my shots from Edwards in 2010 and Photoshop...
... and created the F-35D!

I'd rather see the F-35B with the lift fan removed, and an ejectable pod containing 3 SEALs -- used for inserting special forces deep behind enemy lines, quickly. |

| using a 4-Ship flight of F-35s to HALO drop (dont even need pods, just jump seats) 12 SEALs into the middle of enemy infrastructure to capture/kill high value targets, how do you get them out? |

By the time they're ready to come home, the regular F-35 fleet will have paved a clear path for the V-22s, which of course will be escorted by -35s. Come on, its simple! |

I actually believe this could be a possibility. Hmmm... |

Some F-35Bs will land and load them into stealthy passenger pods on the pylons.
Actually, wouldn't it just be a lot easier to put the SEALs in the weapon bays? |

Agreed. If Israel purchases more than the small number they currently seem to have agreed to, I suspect it will look a lot like this, except in desert camouflage and sporting Hebrew script, Pythons, and Derby. |

Wouldn't be surprised if the Navy's NGAD fighter ends up looking just like this. Getting a whole new design is a long shot. |

| Nope. NGAD features too many advances for this airframe to be compatible. |

| NGAD is also suppose to have two engines. It will probably cost to much money to put another engine in the F-35. |

| Stack another F135 on top ala Lightning. Possible 200,000 ft-lb nose down pitching moment should be no problem right? Haha. |

Further to that from the perspective of the defense industrial base it's an extremely bad idea if every single fighter in the US were to be produced by one corporation. If LM wants to enter a derivative of the F-35 into the competition there's probably no way to stop them but they should be told behind closed doors that defense industrial base considerations will be part of the criteria. In other words they're going to be allowed to win so don't bother.
This aside NGAD is a twin engine, two seat, whose primary mission is air superiority. The technology demonstration phase is supposed to begin next year. Does LM really have extra talent lying around to work on NGAD while they're still testing and fixing the F-35? One certainly hopes the best and brightest are already being kept busy. |

Double Nope. I'm thinking NGAD should have something revolutionary...Like a Pulsed detonation augmentor and a Ramjet mode for use at high speed and altitude. . Unless the F-135 becomes magically compatible with such extensive upgrades, then I'm afraid I'll have to disagree with any sort of engine mods to the F-35. |
